Really, Christmas?

Why do you insist on showing up before Halloween even happened? Yes, I know Pillsbury is awesome and their crescent rolls are good for holiday dinners, but it's not even November. I don't need to see your decorations in stores when the halloween spiders haven't even disappeared yet. Please go away until at least November. Don't come early. I hate you, anyway. Don't make me suffer for longer than I have to.

Re: Really, Christmas?

  • I love Christmas and I welcome it's arrival every year.  I'm also sad when it's gone.

  • No kidding.  I was looking for Halloween stuff this weekend, and it had already been stuffed into a little corner to make room for Xmas junk.

  • I'm probably weird but I LOVE Christmas and start looking for stuff in, like, September. I also hate when it's over and feel depressed about it for a little while. Not a Halloween person though so that probably has something to do with it. :)
  • I like the Christmas season until they start playing Christmas songs on the radio.  All Christmas songs make me wanna van Gogh my ears.

  • As someone having a holiday wedding, I'm super-excited to be able to buy decorations already.  it's my favorite time of year.
  • Y'all make me feel like scrooge. I really hate the holidays.
  • I love when Christmas stuff comes out, even though by Christmas I'm beyond being over everything. This year, however, we have a house, and I'm decorating for fall for the first time ever, so I feel rushed. I will say that I plan to hit up some stores this weekend to see if the Christmas onslaught has made all the fall stuff cheaper. All signs are pointing to yes.
  • I've already busted myself humming "Frosty the Snowman" at work several times in the last week or so.  Bring on the Christmas! Oh and...I didn't do a much needed load of laundry and was forced to wear Christmas socks yesterday, but secretly I didn't mind at all.
  • I love Christmas, I'm like a little kid. That being said, it depresses me when it comes out in October. I'm not nearly mentally prepared enough to face winter by now.

  • I hate when they have xmas stuff out so early.  They are starting so early, I get sick of xmas before Decemeber.Do you know how odd it is to hear 'Jingles Bells' playing in October when you live in 80 degree weather? One holiday at a time it what I say.October = halloweenNovember  = ThankgivingDay after Thanksgiving through Dec = XmasDec 31 = New Years.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Ditto Lyndasuvi--one holiday per month, in the right order, at the right time. October is NOT the time for Christmas. I don't want to see Christmas till the beginning of December at the earliest. My only hope is that as they push it earlier and earlier each year, eventually there might be a real backlash and they end up having to move it all back again.
  • See, in Canada, Thanksgiving is at the beginning of October so... yeah, that works for us :)

  • Thank you Lynda! One holiday at a time. This year, they are opening the malls at midnight on Thanksgiving to start the holiday shopping season even earlier. My MIL wants me to go with my SILs and their families to shop. J & I looked at each other and said no. That's way too much for me. I'd rather be sleeping.
  • I'm with Lynda on the holiday schedule. I am way too busy dealing with October semester stress to be anywhere near ready to think about December semester stress.I am really looking forward to the holiday season next year. If all goes as I hope it does, I will be celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas with FI for the first time, and that will be divine. This year, though, I'll stick to my regular schedule of listening to "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" over and over and crying.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Okay, I stand corrected.  Dec = ChristmasNot the day after thanksgiving. As Moose stated, not every country celebrates the same holidays in the same order as us.

  • Eeep! Can't wait. Well, I guess I COULD wait until after Thanksgiving, and part of me hates that they bring out Christmas stuff so early, but I get all giddy inside. I can't help it.

  • Yup. It was even ON THE NEWS yesterday. They want to start the holiday shopping earlier to extend the amount of money they can pull in. Ugh.
  • A lot of places have been opening the stores at 00:01 on Black Friday the last few years. Is that what they mean by opening at midnight on Thanksgiving? Because it doesn't make any sense for stores to be open at midnight Thanksgiving day - no one's going to go Christmas shopping

  • I hate Christmas and I don't want to see Christmas stuff during Halloween season. My Starbucks coffee comes in a seasons cheer type paper cup now WTF?

  • I looove Christmas and am just itching to hear the first Christmas song on the radio.  I was super excited to see wrapping paper at Walmart the other day. I can't wait!!
  • Yeah Tide, Tysons Mall is opening at Midnight on Black Friday.
  • They've been doing that for a couple years now. Personally, I would rather do shopping at midnight than have to get up at 3 or 4 to be at a store at 5. Plus, when I was working nights at the airport, I could just go straight from work :)

  • The entire mall has been open at midnight? They said it was new this year. Huh.
  • I don't know about that mall in particular, I meant a lot of places have been opening at midnight

  • Well, damn.  I thought I had a Canadian loophole for enjoying Christmas in October.

  • Yeah I think the anchor stores and huge chain stores have opened at midnight in the past but not the entire mall. Like, you'd be able to go to Verizon at midnight and get your phone fixed. Or go to VS to get that bra you need at midnight that can't wait till 5. But at least you'll be able to curb your Dippin Dots & Auntie Ann's pretzel craving while you shop. That's nuts.
  • I loooooove christmas! I get so excited when I see the first christmas displays, commercials, anything. Christmas is the best time of the year, hands down. Y'all are scrooges.
