Asking him to not be a GM anymore....

But to officiate the wedding instead? Do you think someone might be offended by this? He is a groomsmen currently but we might ask one of FI's friends to officiate the wedding instead. (Maybe.) Thoughts?

  • I don't see any problem, given he his outgoing and has the personality for that sort of thing.  It's not like you're demoting him to GB attendant.

  • Is he already ordained? Are you sure that he wouldn't be too shy for something like this? Personally, if you think he would like it, I see it as a 'promotion'. Just don't ask someone else to fill his spot so your sides are even or something like that.

  • I don't think it's offensive, but I do think you should ask him what he thinks and get his thoughts before you plan any further.
  • I would ask him how he feels about it. He is a pretty outgoing person generally so I think he would do a pretty good job of it. It might be something we not even ask him to do just seeing our options really... And in my county you can get an one day ordainment (?) for a $43 fee and an appointment, so its not hard in Sacramento county.
  • I don't think this is a problem, because it is pretty much a huge promotion. We did something along these lines with FI's elder brother, because FI's mom objected to us picking one brother over the other as BM so we ended up asking the elder to officiate and the younger to be BM. I mean, the officiant is basically the most important freaking person at the wedding besides the bride and groom. You can't get married without one unless you're a Quaker.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Why can't he do both?
