On the go, healthy breakfasts

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I leave the house at 6:30am, by the time I get to work, I'm starving. I don't want to get up any earlier than I have to and eat breakfast at home. I need suggestions that travel well and are relatively healthy, and hopefully tasty too. I tend to leave the not-so-tasty things at home in the pantry and go hungry, which isn't good. Or stop at BK, which is even worse. Thanks!

Re: On the go, healthy breakfasts

  • I always do yogurt and some fruit, occasionally I'll add a whole wheat bagel if I'm starving. And either coffee or juice. But I love yogurt like there's no tomorrow, I could eat it all the time.

  • Apples and carrots. They are filling, you can eat them in the car, and they're healthy.
  • When I'm in a huge hurry, I eat Luna or Clif bars or Special K protein bars.

  • My favorite breakfast to bring to work in a single serving container of Greek yogurt, and granola/cereal to mix in.  I honestly look forward to it every day!

  • Emerald nuts makes these bags of mixed nuts that are really tasty.  I haven't checked out the label to see how good for you they are, but nuts are full of protein, so I figure it can't be that bad.

  • Obviously not dirty bacon.

  • I like Fiber One bars - they're really good about 150 calories each.  I also will do yogurt and love cottage cheese w/ fruit.
  • If you could make some kind of protein shake to drink in the car, a banana, maybe toast/english muffin with penut butter. You could also get an egg mcmuffin if you wanted, just forgoe the bacon/sausage and maybe the cheese. Thats actually not that bad for you.
  • I eat at work, about half an hour after I get here.  So, I toast an english muffin, spread laughing cow cheese and jam on it.  Tastes like cream cheese and jam.  (that's easy to travel with)Or I'll have instant oatmeal.

  • For on the go, I like granola bars, yogurt, fruit, cheese, and dry cereal (I just put the cereal in a baggie).
  • I buy these trail mix fruit and nut bars. They're about 150 calories, and really filling. I eat it with a can of v8.
  • I vote yogurt and fruit or cottage cheese and fruit.
  • I have also made an egg & cheese english muffin...I wrap it in foil so I can maintain the bottom half of the sandwich without dropping anything on myself.  Homemade smoothies are easy and awesome. I do 1/2 milk, 1/2 oj, a banana, a nice big scoop of pain yogurt, and if I have any berries, I add those.  Yum.

  • Those yogurt smoothies are great if you want yogurt but are worried about eating it in the car. I used to do that and a banana or Nutri-grain bar in the mornings when driving to school/work.
  • Oh, and also peanut butter by the spoonful.  Yummy.
  • This is shuld probably be it's own S/O thread, but...Does anyone have any good recipes for homemade protien bars? I finally found a low carb ceral that will work well.

  • Microwave oatmeal packets! Also, I microwave eggs.  I'll scramble an egg and an egg white together in a little Gladware cup I've sprayed with Pam and nuke it in the microwave for a minute or so.  I add a little cheese and put in on toast and it's a good balance of protein/carbs/fat and delicious, too.I also keep individual packets of trail mix in my desk, plus Luna bars, Clif bars, and Larabars.  Oh, and a few apples.  My desk is like a grocery store.

  • a) you'd have to define healthy..... :) b) I'm on an english muffin kick right now. while the dog's in the backyard in the morning, I lightly butter one, add some shredded sharp cheddar, and run it in the toaster oven and let it broil.  I have a glass of milk with my meds, and eat a little of it, but I eat it and drink some water on my way to work. I'm also a fan of Zone bars. Chocolate Mint, Chocolate Coconut, and Chocolate Peanut Butter.  I found those after my surgery, and ate them as breakfast all the time. Clif bars - Chocolate Chip peanut crunch, and one that has pretzels in it and a trail mix version- are good, too.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I like the Kashi Go lean Granola bars.  They have a lot of tasty flavors.  You could also bring along a banana or strawberry's.  I also like to pack a bagel and cream cheese.  I will toast it at work.I mostly drink water, but I will bring a cup of OJ in a travel mug and that helps a lot.  I go to work at 6am so I have to pack some good easy food for the morning or I am just draging...
  • Mm, I love yogurt and fruit. I wonder if I could eat that in the car without spilling it all over myself :) I do this all the time. But then, Toronto traffic is beyond ridiculous so I just wait to open it until I get to where it's stop-and-go every day and then I eat it while I nudge my car slowly forward. Everyone does it.

  • The Nature Valley crunchy granola bars are my filling, on-the-go breakfast.  They're only about 200 calories per package, and chock full of fiber.  And ditto pp that single-serving yogurt containers are great for to-go breakfasts, too.
  • Mm, the homemade egg mcmuffins sound lovely! And so do the smoothies. I can't do anything with PB, I can't stand the smell (even though I don't mind the taste). Coco - what kind of cereal do you eat dry? I don't like milk, so I eat all my cereal dry, but the healthy stuff tends to be pretty tasteless, and I'm determined not to buy any more fruity pebbles :)

  • When I was working, I did instant oatmeal (we have a water cooler at home that dispenses hot water, so I would make it as I was walking out), hard boiled egg with wheat toast, fiber one bars, apples, those yogurt smoothies things, carnation instant breakfast, slimfast oatmeal raisin meal bars
  • Have you ever tried almond butter vogt? I find it has a much different smell than regular pb.
  • I used to love oatmeal, but ate it 2 meals a day, every day when I worked in a very demanding position and couldn't take breaks. Now it kind of brings back those bad memories. I either need new flavors, or to wait a couple more years. Which is too bad, I really liked oatmeal.

  • Fiber one makes a poptart now - makes me feel like I am eating something bad, but you get a good amount of fiber and protein so it keeps you full.I also second the special K bars or other healthy protein/breakfast bars.
  • Nope, neve heard of almond butter, Nebb. Is it near the PB in the store?
