Kind of.  I'm going to an engagement part for some friends in a week.  I'm pretty good friends with the bride, and sent a congratulatory gift to her right after she got engaged.  So do I need to bring a gift to the engagement party too, or does the one I already gave her "count"?

I don't think gifts are normally given at engagement parties. They are just to celebrate the couple getting engaged. So.. I say, no gift.

E-parties aren't really gift-giving events anyway, right?  I think you're fine not bringing a gift, especially since you already got her one.

I think it totally counts.  If the party's at their home, I would take a bottle of prosecco or something just so I didn't show up empty handed.

I would bring a bottle of wine.  I hate going places empty handed.  I think the congratulatory gift is more than enough gift until the wedding.

FMIL gave us an engagement party. Some brought gifts, some didn't. We were blown away that people brought gifts to begin with! A gift isn't needed to be brought in the first place, so you for sure don't need to bring one, esp. because you already got her something :-).

I would say it counts, but I don't like to go to parties empty-handed. So, I'd bring a bottle of their favorite booze or some wine and a card.

Its out of town in Texas.  We're actually staying with the person who is hosting the engagement party and I've gotten him a little "thanks for having us" present already.  I'm also helping make some food for the party too.   So we think that's good and I'm covered?    I was leaning that way too, I just wanted to make sure.  I'm actually making Taco Dip valleyhoo!  You should stop by.  My taco dip is awesome.

I'm with pp. Bottle of wine or flowers. Then again, that's really for the host of the party, so I'm not sure if you should bring the couple an extra gift or not. I'd lean towards not, though.

The debate over engagement parties being gift giving events really ended with "whatever is customary in your area"If you're not comfortable with just a card, ask on that local board what is customary there.

The gift you already gave her counts. You dont need to take another gift. I agree with the others. If you dont want to go empty handed take a bottle of wine or some kind of bottle.
