  • I put it in a savings account, paid deposits, and will do final payments at the end.

  • I'm with nightsprite, I'd just put it all into an account and make payments as they come up. For many vendors you won't be able to finalise payments until the week or two before, when your numbers are confirmed.
  • Ditto PPs. Pay your deposits and bank everything until final payment is due. There are several reasons to do this: #1 - the economy sucks right now. There are instances in which businesses close and file for bankrupcy. Once that happens, they are not obligated to immediately pay back debts - so you're out a huge chunk of change that you may not get back for a long time if you pay in full. Also, there are cases of vendors disappearing and clients not being able to find them. #2 - If you pay a vendor in full, they pretty much have you over a barrel. Should you decide later on that you want to change vendors for whatever reason, they SHOULD refund everything that you've paid them over the deposit, but, it could very well turn into a legal fight before you see your money. #3 - Again, the economy sucks. A lot can happen in a year. Health issues, car issues, job losses, etc. In the event that you have to cancel your wedding for any reason, you may be out your deposits, but you will still have the rest of your "wedding" money in the bank to survive on in the meantime.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • I think I only had one vendor who offered up a payment plan option, but we didn't do it. We paid all deposits upon booking, and the the final amount right around the wedding.

  • Not a troll.  A lurker troll=made up drama and stupid questions
  • I was gonna say that, but then I decided to be nice  ;)  I must be off my game
  • Sunkissed - Ditto to everyone...Also don't pay your photographer in full before the wedding.  Make a deposit,  Pay half day of wedding and give a final payment when you receive your pictures...I also didn't pay my DJ until the day of the wedding.
  • You will need to work out a schedule based on what the vendor's contract states, I think wedding wire is a good tool to help you (and it's free)http://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-planning/wedding-budget.htmlWedding account is a great idea, You may also wish to consider getting a credit card to make the vendor payments ONLY IF you pay off the amount in full at the end of each interest free period, you will be covered for items over a certain amount (check what this is in the US) in the event the company goes bust or the goods don't arrive etc.  It could offer you additional peace of mind.  Just don't be tempted to put more on the card than you can afford to pay back.
