The Box

IHO the new Cameron Diaz movie- if you were given the opportunity to push a button and receive $1,000,000 but as a consequence someone in the world would die... would you do it?

Re: The Box

  • Not unless it was my ex husband that would die.
  • Cew! No conditions on who the person could be. :P

  • thats tough. cuz that doesnt sound significant seeing as all over the world... how many people die each day? can the person who dies be someone who wants to because theyre slowly dying of aids and in pain? is it some serial murderer or some poor kid's mommy? too many questions.i wouldnt do it, because i would torture myself with guilt.
  • Can you choose who dies? If so, maybe yes, but I'd look for a someone who is suffering in illness and wants to go.
  • Can we pick the person? Just kidding. I wouldn't - no, couldn't - do it.
  • Then no. I wouldn't do it.
  • There seems to be a lot of running around in that movie, so it surely cant be as simple as pushing a button and someone dying. I would say no, just because I dont enjoy running for my life.
  • I dont enjoy runningSuper this
  • Nope.  I couldn't live with the guilt of knowing I was responsible for another person's death.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • In the grand scheme of things, a million dollars isn't that much.  Not worth it.  Now, if it were $100 million, that may be different...  No.  Still couldn't do it.  I believe in karma too much to.  The money would be cursed.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • Quit twisting my words cew!!! I dont not enjoy running, i dont enjoy running *for my life*. Thats an entirely different form of running.
  • What if you pushed the button, and then you were the one who dies?  That would officially suck.Regardless of who would die, my answer is no.
  • There seems to be a lot of running around in that movie, so it surely cant be as simple as pushing a button and someone dying. Maybe someone dies, which then causes some terrible chain of events or something.
  • Noooo way.
    image
  • I HATE terrible chains of events. Those are the worst.
  • No, H pointed out that what if I gave the go-ahead and then they killed him? Or one of our friends/family?Plus, I couldn't live with myself, but I definitely wouldn't take that risk, for any amount of money.

  • Me too Nebb. I just can't stand stressful movies period. I think that's why I don't like Zombie movies. It's just too much pressure. I've always said that if my life was a disaster movie, I'd want to die early. I'm not interested in all that running around and surviving.
  • The terror of running and being chased is way too much for me, ditto cew.
  • Nebb - can we die early together? Holding eachother.
  • Not if someone pushes the button, and youre it.
  • Oooh. Good point. Shiit.
  • I couldn't; the guilt would be crippling. P.S.-- not what I was expecting from the title of the thread.
  • georgia - you just made me snot from laughing. Box is my favorite name for the vag.
  • Now you've ruined the word 'box' just like you ruined BPH. Tsk tsk.

  • Wait... what's BPH?
  • In that way, one can die but he can save thousands of lives with that moneyBut what if the person you killed would have otherwise cured cancer, or made some other huge species altering change?

  • When I think of this, I think of batman, when the joker gave two boats a button to hit, blowing the other boat up to save the lives of themselves. I couldn't even push the button then... let alone for 1 million dollars. Even for my own life, I couldn't be responsible of someone else randomly dying.
  • Wait... what's BPH? big puffy heart
