Re: * AMrs *

  • After I hit post I realized what a long shot that would be, but here goes nothing! H's, chef made a stew/casserole typ dish that was tomato based (gravyish) with SA sausage and it was a bit spicey.  We served it over mashed potatos.  H didn't get the recipe becuase he figured the ods were slim we'd ever get thesausage, BUT the local butcher has it this week.  No, I don't know the name of what she used, it was long and started with a K.  He says she makes it two ways, one has lentils and the one I had did not.Of course, now that I have the sausage, the chef is on her safari honeymoon until mid December.Any clue at all what I'm describing?

  • I do not have a clue. South African sausage is called 'boerewars' and I can't think of one offhand that starts with a K.The dish sounds like one of many variations of what's called a 'potjie' which is basically a stew made of whatever you have lying around. It's traditionally made with beef, lamb or sausage and beer or broth but tomato is often added to it to make it richer and veggies are common so lentils could be added. It's kind of a make it with whatever you have on hand meal so this may be a variation of that, and it is often served over mashed potatoes or pap (a ground corn porridge).Sorry I can't be of more help :)
