I'm really angry (vent)

Sorry for the vent, as this really has nothing to do with anything, but I just found out my last paycheck bounced. I'm now essentially broke, and I have a wedding on Saturday that I was going to give a cash (well, check rather) gift. And my boss is out of town until Monday, so nothing can be done about it until then.  There goes my online shopping idea that was going to occur this afternoon.

Re: I'm really angry (vent)

  • That totally sucks.
  • Oh my god, that does suck!  At least there's the 1 year to send a gift rule.

  • That's some shiit. How did it happen? Do you work for a really small company?
  • Have you looked foe a new job? A check bouncing from work is not a good sign of job security.
  • Thats just awful. I'm sorry, Cengle.
  • If I were you, I'd request a little inconvenience pay on top of your paycheck when your boss gets back.
  • That sucks a lot!  Thankfully (I work in a small office) I write out the paychecks so I can always make sure they'll clear.  I think I'd call the boss's cell if I were you.

  • yeah, i work for a sole practitioner attorney.  He's in the middle of a really nasty divorce and he has to pay his wife's attorney's fees (which is a crock of shiit, but that's another story) and they just take them out of his account, with no notice.  If the job wasn't so great in other respects, I might look around for a new job.  I'm just glad I had enough in my account that I didn't overdraft.
  • Yeah in my office we have direct deposit.  If that happened there'd be big problems.  Especially in this economy.

  • That happened to me too. Make sure they pay all the bounced check fees and any overdrafts (if you have any). My job was great, but the paychecks bounced, more than once, so I had to quit.

  • That really really sucks. My friend had a job where hers bounced so often she just expected it to happen. Which is wrong. And sad. Hope you have enough to get you through till Monday. Can they at least get you some petty cash to get through till then?
  • He should set up a different account.

  • Jessjo-this is the second time it's happened.  I'm going to have a nice discussion with him when he gets back; this just can't keep happening.  I was going to make a lot of wedding payments this weekend too...grrrrr
  • My friend had her work check bounce.......Turned out the doctor was a cokehead!
  • He needs to handle this differently. It's also illegal to write checks you can't cover.
  • that's illegal (and ironic considering your job....)I know (at least in our state) that you are actually not allowed to work until your employer has the funds to pay you.

  • He should set up a separate, protected payroll acct. This is happening more and more often. A friend of my mom's went to work one day and found the place shut up and padlocked. Last paychecks bounced AND owed for upcoming check as well. All inquiries directed to a bankruptcy attorney.
  • "I know (at least in our state) that you are actually not allowed to work until your employer has the funds to pay you."I think this means I should totally stay home tomorrow instead of coming into to work just to answer the GD telephone and get the mail. And he absolutely needs to set up a separate account, and I am going to address this to him on Monday.  He's so freaking disorganized though, it may take a year to get him to actually do it.  *sigh*
  • I'm sorry.  That totally sux.  One of my friends used to have this happen all the time b/c her cokehead boss blew all the $. Since it is a small firm, can you request to be paid in cash on payday?  Or a bank check?

  • keb: from now on, I am going to request to be paid that way.  I can't handle not knowing if my paycheck is going to bounce when I have to pay for wedding crap and law school tuition!  I just had to transfer money from my savings into my checking account, and I HATE that.
  • I feel your pain.I just checked my bank account and we have next to nothing in there. After a brief panic attack I realized our landlord cashed our rent check early (It's due the 3rd, I send it in a week early). Both Dh and I get paid tomorrow and I was expecting it to hit after payday...
