Toasted Punkin Seeds...HALP.

How do I do it? I get it. It's probably self explanatory, but I don't know what the hell I'm doing so reserve judgement and help a sister out?

  • I remember that we just put them on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven.  But that was ages ago.

  • I think you have to soak them overnight in salt water.
  • Awww, man. Really? Overnight soakage? I lose interest in things pretty quickly. If I have to wait 24 hours for gratification, I'm screwed. And so are the pumpkin seeds.

  • I can't do clicky, but look at this:http://tinyurl.com/4mljmtIt doesn't call for overnight soaking.  I've also seen it coating the seeds in butter and salt instead of oiling the pan.
  • I just did this. yumm. 450 for about ten minutes or until brown. You have to test them. they are  done when they aren't gooshy in the middle. ew.

  • We just tossed them with some olive oil, salt, and pepper and bake them on a cookie sheet.
  • To my knowledge, you rinse them in water very well to get all the gunk and slime off, let them dry somewhat on spread out papertowel, salt them, put them in the oven (dunno what temperature) until they are roasted.
  • OH THANK GOODNESS!! Thank you! That's perfect! I thought I read somewhere that someone had cajun spicked ones. I suppose I just buy the cajun spice and shake it on there before I bake 'em, huh?

  • OK wait - turns out you can boil them in salt water for 10 minutes (just to get a good salty taste throughout)..........OR you can just rinse them off.  Basically - rinse them off, Toss in a tablespoon of melted butter and then lay them out in a single layer on a cookie sheet.  Sprinkle with salt and bake until golden brown on 300 degrees.
  • Can you do that with White Pumpkins too? We have a white pumpkin this year.
  • Ive never tossed in butter or oil before, you guys are just fattening up a perfectly healthy snack, dangit.
  • Yeah, I think you really could do any kind of spice, sweet or savory.  Not sure when the best time would be to add it though, before baking or after.  After may give a stronger taste if it's just sitting on top, you know what I mean?  If it's baked in, it might be more subtle.  I have no idea :)
  • Now I really want some roasted pumpkin seeds.
  • albino pumpkins?

  • Yes, B! Wanna see a pic? It's not a Ghost Pumpkin (that's a different kind) but it's a white pumpkin.
  • Good point about the flavor. I suck like Hoover in the kitchen.

  • We tossed ours in a little olive oil (just to coat them), added salt/pepper/spices to them, laid them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and baked at 350 for about 30 min until toasted
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!
