Sweater dress in black or a pretty color like purple. I'm assuming it'll be chilly.

I realize this was probably a stupid question, but I've actually never been to a wedding as just a guest.

I don't think it's a stupid question. I went to a winter wedding for the first time last year and I was totally stumped. I ended up wearing a purple sweater dress (from BR, Shelly!) and some tights and heels and fun jewelry.

BTW, what's the crowd like?   In my family, we tend to be a bit more casual for afternoon weddings.  We're well dressed but a cocktail dress at 1 would be overkill.

For a winter afternoon, I'd probably wear really nice black or dark gray slacks with a really nice sweater/blouse (I have like, no circulation, lol) with great accessories and heels.If it were an evening thing, I'd probably suck up the cold and go for a cocktail dress.

Banana, that's what gets confusing. It's my cousin's wedding, so it's going to be a mix of young (he and his FI are 22) and old...I'll probably go with a LBD w/ a nice cardigan over it and put FI in nice pants and a button up shirt w/ a tie

I live by the rule of thumb that I would rather be over dressed than under dressed. In fact, I prefer to be overdressed often as I usually show up at church, school plays, showers and the like with the most dressy outfit in the room. I guess it is because I am of the opinion that people dress much too casually in general these days. As long as you look cute and are not in some floor length ball gown people almost always compliment.

I would go with a dress or a skirt and nice blouse. I wouldn't wear pants to a wedding, but I live in Louisiana where it's almost always hot, so I don't have to worry about being cold.

Personally, I'd wear black pants with a really nice top.  Afternoon weddings aren't that formal, and I get cold in December.
