  • Are the glaciers as awesome as I think they're going to be?!YES! Actually the first time we caught a glimpse of the Mendenhall Glacier on a bus from Juneau, there was a collective gasp from the passengers. And that's NOTHING compared to the Hubbard Glacier. How are you traveling? Are you cruising? We did a northbound cruise from Vancouver to Seward (flew back from Anchorage). I'd highly recommend a one-way cruise... you see more that way.Feel free to email me... knottie.ringpop @ gmail

  • We went in August and were told that it was the best time of year to go.  You can see how we dressed, but the weather was in the upper 60s and low 70s most of the time.

  • I'm going to jump in also since we decided to go there as well.  Love the pics!
  • Thanks I will definitely be emailing you..probably this week. We're flying both ways because we have free RT tickets to anywhere AirTran flies (as a result of a long traumatic story). I've always wanted to go to Alaska, so we might as well go for free!I'll probably have questions about geography and whatnot when FI and I finally sit down with his mom's timeshare book (free housing too!..we seriously lucked out).I'm hoping to do some sort of cruise that leaves and comes back to the same place up there..a day or a couple days.

  • My parents went several years ago for their 25th Anniversary. They did a cruise in mid-July-early August.  My dad says that is the best and also most expensive time to go, but when you get into September and lower rates, you run into what pp did--lots of rain.  July and August are the best times from what I have heard in general. My parents loved it, btw!

  • gkb - we'll be going in June so it probably won't be quite as warm..maybe we'll consider waiting until August though.

  • Cool, look forward to hearing from you! I unfortunately don't know very much about what to do on land as we only did the cruise, but I think the Alaska Toursaver book has a lot of deals for things to see and do.

  • :butting in also: I've got to AW that I'm from Alaska. Truth be told though, I've never been a lot of the places the cruises go though if thats what you're doing/
  • I'll def check out that book.My goal for the vacation is to just "see some crazy Alaska sh!t." aka glaciers and moose.

  • This past summer up there was supposedly amazing but it really is hit or miss. June-August seems to be the best bet though. Will you guys be staying in Anchorage? There are some amazing restaurants there.
  • We did our cruise through Princess so we had a land portion before we got on the ship.  I'd be happy to answer any questions you have (if I can).

  • You can bug me at my work email; ajb dot AHAC at yahoo dot com then I can give you my real email.
  • Butting in also- I have family in the Fairbanks area. I have been up there a bunch. If you go in June, I believe the summer solstice festival will happen in Fairbanks- freaking awesome. Plus it is sunny all.the.time. Also, if you make it to the Fairbanks area, go a bit further and hit up Chena Hot Springs. It is a resort that you can also day trip and spend the day in the hot springs. Fabulous. I mock threaten my family that if I ever go up there and they refuse to take me to Chena then I won't come back. For more info on the inner part of the state, you can email me at sweetkitty_17 @ yahoo.com
  • Oh, and I have also been dog sledding, moose photo hunting, hot air ballooning, and saw the North Pole where it is Christmas 365 days a year.
  • Thanks ladies! You'll all be hearing from an email address containing my SN. :)
