h1n1

For those of you who have/had/know someone who's had it, what were your symptons? I have a cold but today I just feel way worse. My neck hurts and it feels like someone punched me in the face. I had my temperature check yesterday at the doc and it was normal.

Re: h1n1

  • I went to urgent care today just to pick up a prescription and I asked the receptionist if they had been getting in a lot of people with swine. She said they were getting a lot of people that thought they did, but didn't, and the people that seemed to be testing positive didn't really seem all that sick at first (some with no fevers, etc.) My friends that have had it reported it starting with a really bad cough/sore throat.

  • It represents differently for different people (or so I've been told.)  I'm currently in the middle-end of it or at least that is my guess.  I've had a hard hacking dry cough, and 3 day fever with a small bout of dizziness and nausea, followed by a lot of mucus in lungs and sinuses both.

  • I'd wonder first about sinus infection. Does it hurt more (your face/head) when you bend over?

  • Both mine and my FI's started with a horrible sore throat and a cough.  And then I started getting horrible stomach issues a couple days later and was throwing up a lot.  Then I started getting actual flu symptoms along with those two.  Never got over a 100 degree fever though.
  • Yes, there is more pressure when I bend over or lie down. My eyes feel like they are on fire.
  • That sounds like a sinus infection, but if I were you, I'd get to the doctor and get it checked out. You will probably need an antibiotic either way.

  • Sounds like a sinus infection.
  • My youngest sister got it shes only 7... she had a temp. of 104 something, horrible cough, sore throat, achy body and throwing up. Parents took her to the hosiptal and she got Tamiflu. She got it before the vacine was even available here.
  • Symptoms of H1N1 are very similar to the regular flu.  There's no way of telling the difference unless you get tested at the dr.If you don't have a fever, you probably don't have the flu.  Have you taken your temp today?  Do you own a thermometer?

  • My asthmatic little sister has it.  She and I got it about a day apart 8 hours apart.  She has been coughing up blood.

  • I should probably go. Do they know if you have it during the same visit? I'm worried about FI catching it with his asthma.
  • Yes you can find out right away. I've heard if you are having flu like symptoms now though that it pretty much IS the swine flu because seasonal flu hasn't really flared up yet.

  • There isnt much they are going to do for you if you have the flu.  Antibiotics don't work on viruses, and they are trying to restrict Tamiflu for those at serious risk for complications.  Besides it wont cure it, it will just make you get over it faster. However, if you have a sinus infection you probably won't feel better until you get on some antibiotics.  It may be worth going in just for that.   I wouldn't rush the ER either way.

  • That sounds much more like sinus infection than the flu. Call your doc or find a walk-in clinic.

  • The only thing I have to add is that my doctor said that many people with H1N1 didn't have a fever.  I know it's usually the tell-tale sign - if you don't have a fever, you don't have the flu, and vice versa, but apparently it's not as good an indicator for H1N1 in many cases.

  • I don't know how true it is, but a dietitian at work mentioned that Swine Flu carries very low grade fevers as Navybaby had said hers was. Also, Salt, I have been told the same thing about Seasonal Flu not being around yet.
  • oh awesome.  I've been hoping that since I just have a cough and no fever (normal to 99.5) that I *didn't* catch the swine flu from FI.  Now I'm thinking perhaps I did. Crap.
