She posted on my local and someone suggested she post on the military board too. One girl on my local, bless her heart, gave her the "it's your day do what you want!" speech. She's the girl who has been married 6 years, has 2 kids, and is planning a vow renewal complete with a wedding party, registry and pre-wedding parties. (After I told her if she goes that route, don't have a shower and please do tell everyone it's a vow renewal.)

I can not believe people can justify lying to your friends & family. It blows me away. I understand there are difficult situations, but don't you trust everyone to understand? ER

I don't get it.  FI is in the Army.  It's a whole other beast, but it doesn't exempt you from the regular norms of society.  I was probably too mean to her for that board.

Ya know...when my brother and his wife got married they were engaged for 3 weeks.  He left for Iraq a week later.They, like just about everyone, decided they wanted to be married before he left for Iraq (he's in the army).They had a beautiful wedding that yes, was planned in 3 weeks. The crazy thing is pretty much the entire guest list was on call, since he couldn't get and exact date on when he could go home to get married until 2 weeks before the wedding.Sure, a lot of her family were the vendors (such as the catering) but the point is you CAN plan a wedding in 3 weeks. And everyone there said if you didn't know that it was put together in 3 weeks, you wouldn't have been able to tell.

I just don't understand how it "doesn't count." I would feel so guilty doing it and then having a re-do and only counting that as my anniversary and telling people "I've only been married 3 months" if I'd REALLY been married for a year.FI sugested tonight that we "sign a piece of paper" so I can get on his health insurance. I HAVE health insurance. He just has better health insurance. I was like, "Huh?! So we'd actually be married? Um, no. Not yet."
