F/U - We Didn't Get the House :(

You may remember that I posted pics of a house we were interested in purchasing a few weeks back... Well, we had it appraised by two architects/contructors and went and made an offer to the owner. But he wants substantially more than the house is actually worth And as much as we like the house, we're not stupid... With our offer he would have made a very nice profit, but it looks like he wants to make a ridiculous profit He's just going to wait for someone without a budget to come along and pay what he's asking... Anyway, that's my news...

That's tough; I'm sorry.  Househunting was tough for me.  There were a couple I bid on that I didn't get, but in the end, the place I got is definitely the right one.  Good luck!

That sucks Expat Who knows, he may realize that no one is going to pay him that and lower the price.Or you may find a house you love even more.When we were buying, we put offers on 5 houses before we found the one we got. And it really is the best one for us.So, I'll keep crossing my fingers for you! I'm sure whatever you end up with will be beautiful

Thanks guys! We know we could build the same house for less than what we offered him. Construction just takes a long time here... We could have finished that house in 4 months; it still needs floors, bathrooms, a kitchen, etc. Starting from 0 means two years The owner's just going to wait for his white elephant buyer to come along... It wouldn't surprise me if the house is still on the market in two years when we would be moving into our own new house!

How long has it been on the market?

It's been on the market for at least 6 months... That's one reason why we felt we had a pretty good chance. My FIL thinks that he'll call us eventually and take our offer. But we can't just sit around for 6 more months and wait for his call

Do you know if there have been any other offers on it?  If you were the only one in 6 months, he may not wait that long.  He has to have a wife/accountant/banker somewhere that wants the house off the books.Or you may still be looking in 6 months if/when he does call.

I'm sorry We're still waiting to hear back from the bank with our offer, they have until November 27th until they have to decide.We lost the last house we put an offer on and now I'm sooo glad we did. It sucked so much at the time though, especially because Dh wasn't there so I had to make the call. I just wanted to sit and cry. 3 months later and that house is still on the market because the owner is being a douche and wants about $30k more than the house is worth.
