Creeped out!

I was home alone last night, DH was out with some friends. I was curled up on the couch with my little furry destroyer watching TV. All of a sudden, the dog jumps up, and runs to the front door barking, and whining like she does when someone is there. I waited for H to come in (even though I wasn't expecting him home so early), but he never did. After a couple minutes of the dog barking, I peeked around the corner to see if anyone was there. I didn't see anyone, so I settled back down on the couch. Shortly after, I heard a noise outside and the neighbors dogs behind my house started barking.I was getting a little nervous so I texted DH to see if for some reason he came home but was doing something outside. He wasn't, he was still out with his friends. After all the dogs stopped barking, I didn't hear anything else and eventually went to bed. This morning when I was leaving for work, I noticed the screen door on the side of our house was open. The main door was still locked, but the screen was wide open. I got out of my car to go close it and saw that it was propped open with a landscaping rock from my flower bed. Ughhh, and now I'm a little freaked out. Lie and tell me it was nothing??

Re: Creeped out!

  • Not gonna lie, that freaks me out for you.

  • No Vally, I said lie to me and tell me it's fine
  • I wish I could tell you it was nothing, but I'd be lying.
  • Whoa.  I'm sorry but that would totally freak me out too.  Can you lock the screen door?  Do you have an alarm system? If it was just open, I'd say it was nothing, just the wind maybe.  But obviously someone intentionally propped it open with your rock.

  • That is another reason why I love having dogs though, even furry little destroyers! Out of five houses on the street where we used to live, ours was the ONLY one that wasn't broken into during a rash of burglaries. I believe that the perps could hear our dogs barking and decided to pass us over.

  • Eeesh. That scares me.
  • I love/hate my dogs for the same reason.  I love they bark to alert me but I hate when they do it and I'm home alone because it scares me.

  • I'm glad you didn't get rid of your dog because she might have been part of the reason potential intruder left you alone.

  • Oh jf, it was nothing to worry about!!! There, do you feel better now? Cuz I would be peeing my pants at my desk right about now.
  • Im pretty sure it was Jason Voorhees.
  • That is very weird!  I would also start locking your screen door.  It's a good thing you have a dog.
  • That door takes you to a landing in a stairwell where you can either go down the steps into the basement, or up to a door that goes into my kitchen. That door stays locked, and so does the door going to the kitchen. Someone would have a heck of a time getting in, and even at that, I'd probably shoot them. DH is quite the gun collector. But still scary =(
  • She is a good guard dog. She has a yappy playful bark when she's excited, but she has a big scary bark and growl when she's serious. We can always tell when she's playing and being dumb vs. when she sees someone walking down the street, at teh door, etc.My dog barking played a part, but I think the neighbors 47 tiny screeching dogs stopped it. That door is in plain view of their yard, and they never shutup. I think I may go give them treats over the fence when I get home.Maybe the person thought no one was home. My car was parked a little ways up the street, the house was dark, ehh. I still would have shot them. It's a safe bet I'm not letting DH out of the house for a while.
  • See, I'm the type that would have called the police and had them dust for fingerprints.  This way, if anything did ever happen, they would already have a prime suspect.

  • Have you thought about getting motion sensor lights?  That helps keep the creeps away.  I'm glad I have a dog too.  He sounds very scary when he wants to so he's nice to have when FI travels.
  • Hah, thanks Salt. I try not to get murdered.
  • Please be VERY careful when you get home.  If the intruder left the door propped open, he could intend to come back.  If you're close to your neighbors, I would also let everyone know what happened, so maybe the community can be on the watch. And I wouldn't want to be left at home by myself for a few days

  • Tide, that's a good idea, thanks. We know a couple of our neighbors so it might not be a bad idea to let them know.
  • Wow I'm sorry that happened to you.  Is there a neighborhood watch you could talk to?  Or the police?  Maybe there has been something going on around the area.
