Nebb

Congrats to A on his success. What an accomplishment. Tell him I'm happy for him! That 2012 show last night was actually really good. It was more around all of the natural disasters that are possible, but also took the time to explain that it's unlikely that they will all happen in 2012.  I'm thinking solar disturbances and the power grid are the most likely candidates for something catestrophic. It also took the stance that the Mayan calendar ending was more of a new beginning than the end. I also watched part of the DVRd SyFy show this morning. It was pretty much the opposite, but still really good. I haven't finished that one yet.

I'm sure they'll show it again and again and again. Especially with the movie coming out this month. :)

I have a feeling it will be solar disturbances as well, and that scares me. I hope ninjavideo picks them up so I can watch, I might try finding a torrent tonight. I need to see it!! Thanks about the congrats :) were super excited. It does mean i pretty much wont see him for the next few months though, but I knew that was a part of the deal when I signed on to marry him.

Nebb! What did you think of Mad Men last night? I was so giddy I had trouble getting to sleep after.

It was really interesting. I am now scared to death of the power grid collapsing. They also talked about some crazy scenario where the plates would basically come loose and start shifting around like jello.

I was absoluetly wired after mad men, it was just such a good episode. The pace, the humour, the little quips everyone was making, was just perfect. I know a lot of people disliked how slow the season was, but it needed the slow degredation of don to get where it was in this episode. I love the amount of humility he showed. I still cant get over how fantastic it was. Im probably going to watch it again today at work if its slow. cew - the power grid being fried was something I read about recently. It would take around 4 years to get power back on line. That is terrifying to me.

Yep. That's what they were saying and that in that time all of the banks would fail and we'd have very little food. The scariest part for me would be the chaos and anarchy.

This is precisely why I want to buy all of that freeze dried vegetables and make a preparedness kit, so that its READY. Youre supposed to keep a couple hundred dollars in your preparedness kit in the event that the power is not working, but I cant bring myself to just stick 300$ in a box under my bed. I feel the urge to go out and get a propane powered hot plate, lots of cans of food and bottled water.

I feel so unprepared right now.
  • Options
Yeah. That was the thing. It talked about the solar disturbances a lot and the fact that they are reaching their maximun instensity next year, which means they are already pretty fuucking intense and this shiit could happen any day now.

I dont like the idea of that. I also dont like the fact that no one here takes me seriously about this stuff and refuses to let me make a preparedness kit. ITS VITAL!!

Ha, cew, gotta make sure all your needs are taken care of.I think emergency preparedness is awesome, though I worry more about Nor'easters than anything else. I don't really buy into all the 2012 stuff, I admit.

I kind of just want to stock mine full of chef boyrdee ravioli, tea, powdered milk, lots of water, melba toast, pb annnnnnnd canned vegetables. Oh, and chocolate.

tacos are a great addition. I'm going to add toilet paper and a lifetime supply of mechanical pencils to mine.
  • Options
    And cake balls.
  • Options
Toilet paper is essential, good thinking cew. I also want a hatchet for mine.
  • Options
Oh yes. And weapons for protecting the bunker. I'm thinking a blowtorch and some throwing stars.
  • Options
Im kind of like frankenstein and afraid of fire, youre not bringing the blow torch into my bunker.
  • Options
Okay. Then maybe a guillotine (sp?) and a sword.
  • Options
    TP is overrated.

  • Options
hahah why do we need a guillotine?
  • Options
That says more about you, than it does about me. Poor Vally's FI.
  • Options
vallyhoo is correct, we COULD survive without it. They didnt use it until like late 1800's anyways.

Random factoid: The guillotine was first used on my birthday in 1792.Also in 1792 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. So that makes two random factoids.

Guillotine is for punishment, duh. we have to keep law and order in the bunker somehow.
  • Options
Also in 1792 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. So that makes two random factoids.Columbus found the New World after the signing of the Consitution? Weird.

The guillotine makes me sad, I always want to go back in time and save marie antoinette.

I need my TP. I would rather have that than the porn.
