SCRATCH WEDDINGS- Anyone used them?

Hi guys,
I booked SCratch weddings and my fiance is making me nervous that we haven't met the dj and how can 1 person do everything himself etc.

Has anyone used them before?

Thanks!! :-)

Re: SCRATCH WEDDINGS- Anyone used them?

  • I was the MOH at a wedding they DJ'd for back in September, and honestly, my SIL was not happy.  She never physically met the DJ, and booked with one person, then was moved to someone else (like an account manager) and spoke to that person leading up to the wedding.  About two weeks before, there was a teleconference w/the account manager and the DJ, and everything was fine - all the song requests, timing, etc. was dicussed and finalized.

On the day of the wedding, the DJ showed up with NO EQUIPMENT.  Apparantly, there's a crew that brings the DJ's stuff.  Okay, that's fine, but the crew was late (in all fairness, the DJ was on time (early in fact) - but what's the point of a DJ if you don't have anyting to spin/play with?)  The wedding started about 20-25 minutes later, and my SIL ended up shelling out about $600+ for the string quartet they hired for their cocktail hour (CH was extended as we waiting for the crew to setup for the reception.)  During the night, the DJ (he was really nice to deal with, and his music was great) just kept messing up a few things 1) announcing toasts when we needed a few more minutes (ie: FOB was to do a welcome toast, and all of a sudden is announced when he's in the restroom!) 2) at one point of the night, a song was played twice and another one was "scratched".

To be honest, she paid about $1,300 or so, and it wasn't worth it.  I actually don't even know how they make their money or pay their staff b/c there are just too many moving parts (sales/account manager/DJ/crew).  I'm not sure if she ever contacted Scratch again, or just let it go b/c she didn't want to deal with anything else wedding related...but to this day, it's the one thing she says she regrets about the wedding planning.  She wishes she didn't believe all the "hype" about the company (fairly new to the NYC wedding market) with all their marketing and wishes she met with a company that allows you to deal directly with your DJ from beginning to end.  She would've been happier paying more money...

  • WOW- ok, thank you. They are still costing us $2000. My fiance and the manager of the place we are getting married at thought it was weird too that we don't meet the dj. All i want is great music and someone to announce evrything on time. Do you remember the name of the dj? We are using DJ Decoy and I am starting to get nervous.

I didn't know of any other DJs that sounded good and weren't cheesy. Any suggestions?
  • Hi Melbk -
question, why aren't you meeting with them? We haven't decided to go with them yet, but we are meeting with the DJ we picked in a few weeks. Why don't you set up a meeting at their studios?
  • We met with DJ Alias from scratch and had a sit down interview AND he did a 15 minute demo for us.

I'm not sure why you would even think about booking anyone for your wedding without meeting them, and if the vendor refuses to let you meet them that be a warning sign for me.

We had a really great experience when we met with scratch and their DJ though, so it seems weird that this is happening to you this way
  • Hi guys, thank you so much! I spoke with them today and we are going to meet with him in a few weeks. For some reason when I spoke to them, they said that I guess he travels a lot and weren't sure or people don't usually meet with them before a couple weeks before the wedding. I agree, I thought it was weird that the person i spoke with was kind of weird about meeting with the DJ. Now we are at least. I don't know what I was thinking with not meeting them. Thanks so much ladies!! :-) I feel MUCH better now!
  • I am using Scratch for our wedding and we loved them. We have meet with everyone a few times. Very responsive on all comments and questions. The demo was great  too. They even suggested we give them pictures of people who are not allowed to request music. Go in and meet with them and you will feel much better!
  • Going in to meet them and have a demo in 3 weeks! Thanks so much again guys, I feel SO much better and they have really been great! :-)Just like all of you guys! :-)

<div>I've also heard some horror stories with Scratch Weddings.  Mostly poor quality, and mess up A LOT of important things.  I was considering them for my wedding until I read some really bad reviews (which were mysteriously gone when I looked at a later date).   It seems they are a big DJ broker and just contract out gigs to cheap DJ's.  </div>
