Re: Church's should NOT cost this much to 'rent'

  • In my opinion I really think that is totally off the charts if you are a member of a church you should not have to pay for the church. Everyone is out to make a buck. I think personally that I would not contuine to go to a church or be a member of one where they would charge me to hold a wedding. Um, yeah, good luck with that. You're going to pay for your dress, your reception, decor, etc... and you're not willing to shell out some money for the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the wedding?Geesh.

  • and you're not willing to shell out some money for the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the wedding? And the church should just take money that would otherwise go to feed the homeless or whatever to pay for the power, cleaning and everything else for your wedding?

Really?  You don't think it costs money to run a church?  You do realize that they have power bills, employees, and other costs, just like a for-profit business?  Do you think those employees should have to work for free just because it's your special day?  It costs a lot of money to run a church, and weekly tithes from the congregation go towards the day-to-day operations as well as ministry, salary and benefits for the pastor and rectors, and their housing.  As a member of a church, I would rather see every extra dollar given to the church go towards helping those in the community rather than going towards someone's pretty princess day so that you can have a free wedding.  Get real.
  • Let me just say (as the original poster) that I totally agree that it takes money to run a church, and certainly don't mind paying and wish I COULD pay...I just had no idea it would be THAT much. But hey, I've had that response to alot of things while doing this whole wedding planning thing! Haha. For ME, personally, it's just more than I can afford unfortunately. I also want to make it clear, as was mentioned earlier, that I did NOT join the church so that I could have a pretty wedding there. We have been members for over 5 years, since I moved to NYC. We've attended mission trips and done classes and been quite active until a personal situation arose recently. So we have been less active.
