Private bridal shop vs. well known famous salon

So I have always dreamed of going to Kleinfeld's however I have very expensive taste on a very tiny budget. I have found a small store in Brooklyn that would give me a great deal on a designer dress but the service was lackluster.
Aside from this, I found a different store in Brooklyn somewhat known locally I think and does amazing custom work and from what I saw browsing they have EXACTLY what I would want in their private line. This being said... for peace of mind.. would you go for a large well known salon over a smaller lesser known store? I have a fear of spending thousands of dollars that I don't even have and the store going out of business or something happening and getting screwed. Albeit I may be over thinking but this will be the most money I have ever spent on ANYTHING and am so scared of something happening.

Re: Private bridal shop vs. well known famous salon

  • It honestly doesn't matter. If your heart is set on one particular dress and that's the only place then go for it! i was considering a place in Brooklyn as well which was small but they were so unprofessional and i didn't feel comfortable getting my wedding dress with them. What places are you looking into in Brooklyn?
  • Are you talking about Doris and/or Valentina?  I would love to hear from people who got their dresses there.
  • I got my BM dress from Doris for my friends wedding and they did a great job. they were really reasonably priced and they were really nice. I worked with Anne I believe and I'm going there to get my BM dresses for my own wedding. I went to Valentina and they were just awful. They have all these young girls working there that don't know what their doing and they are just rude!
  • OMG I am SO glad I wrote this! I am going to go to Monica's based on their private label which SCREAMS me! I had a bad experience at Valentina's and was really disappointed and just plain pissed off. The owner was very nice and gave us a crazy awesome price which made me want to buy there but the service was sooo lackluster and then the saleslady ignored my mother when another customer who she seemed to know walked in, walked THROUGH my mom and started chatting with her.. we were MID conversation at the time. She even signed when my mom suggested another dress earlier on ( it was a weekday and we were the ONLY ones in the store and this was 45 mintus in). I was shocked.
SO that's the problem. This other store has similiar reviews but they make dresses that I can't find anywhere else. I'm so afraid of getting crappy service again..
  • always remeber that the big companies are selling their brand more than the dress...a less known store can have just the same quality if not better....i learned that from my budget wedding planner....she took me to the big stores and also to the small ones to show me the difference. she also brought to my attention that i will wear it a max of 7 hours...i never thought of that! spending so much for a dress for a few hours! that you cant even wear it again! she helped me find a beautiful dress for more than half the price i would pay at the big stores in a small private owned boutique!

    good luck!
