Do you know...

how much your e-ring cost?I only ask because I never wanted to know (it is beautiful and I love it and that is all that matters) but we had to get it appraised and since I don't work I got to go and now I know what it is worth. This knowledge makes me nervous/sad/excited/amazed all at the same time. I knew he loved me but geeze. And now I feel like a money grubbing whore... **sigh** But I still love it! (if I knew how to post a pic I would)

Re: Do you know...

  • Yes, I know how much it costs because of an appraisal as well. And I felt the same way you did, except for the money grubbing whore part... I don't feel guilty ;)
  • I know how much mine cost.
  • Yeah, but it was kind of a mistake. I went to get it insured, they needed the appraisal, so Scott sent it to me to fax to them, and I fuucking freaked the fuuck out in a way that only can do. So then he told me it was no big deal and that's not what he paid for it. Then he told me how much he paid for it and I proceded to freak the fuuck out.So yes. I do. But I wish I didn't.And you seriously, your diamond size has nothing to do with how much he loves you, AND? You soundlike a giant douche.

  • I felt the same way. I didn't want to know, but had to get the receipt/appraisal for insurance purposes. I felt all the same things, because I thought it cost about half what it actually did. Shows how little I knew about diamonds though, because it's a nearly perfect diamond.

  • Yeah, and it was cheap.  Guess my FI doesn't love me.
  • Yes.  I paid for it.  Well, part of it, since we have a joint account
  • I picked mine out. It was 1/3 of what he was willing to spend. Does that mean that I don't love me?
  • Fang, it's ok. You can come have wine and cheesecake with me and Niffy.

  • yes, i know how much my ering cost, we picked it out together. but i feel bad about your money grubbing whore part.
  • ok, so i'm glad I'm not the only one who felt awkward about knowing how much it cost :-P And thanks Fish! I tried to word it in the least douchbaggy way possible but alas my vocabulary failed me :-P
  • Yes I do and I was so relieved when I found out. Dh went ring shopping with his sil and mother, who both have very expensive tastes. They are also very of the "3 months salary" tradition. So when I got my ring I was terrified that he went and spent 3 months salary on the ring and that I would feel guilty every time we got in a financial bind.So I snuck a look at the receipt one day while I went to get it cleaned/inspected and thank god he used his head on that one. While its still the most expensive jewelry I've ever owned (I'm a Claire's girl), at least I know I couldn't trade it for a small child.
  • Oh BubbleJ, you can join, too.Dood...your name wasn't always bubble J Was it? Or am I losing it?

  • I couldn't believe DH spent as much as he did on mine. While I love it, I think that it was too much. He wanted to keep it a secret from me but being the silly-head that he is, he put the receipt from the cleaning with a bunch of other receipts and asked me to go through them before shredding them. We had had the ring cleaned the week before and they had written the value of the ring on the receipt. Doh!

  • Yeah, I picked it out. And paid the downpayment on it. It was inexpensive, but I'm pretty sure my FI loves me as much as yours loves you...

  • I know how much mine cost. Plus he got it on clearance. So dh must really not love me. But its okay. I am having wine and cheesecake with fischy. Who needs dh anyways? ;)
  • Ok, English. I'll bite. What did he spend?

  • Awesome, wine and cheesecake party here I come! My name has always been BubbleJ
  • oh and I know love=/= $$ (I would have been happy with anything and when we looked I picked out much more expensive things) but he was excited to get me the one he got (which he had already picked out before we went shopping together). It is just the most expensive thing I own and I feel weird knowing what it cost.
  • Yes I know how much mine cost - We picked it out together and I paid for it too since we have joint accounts

  • No, I don't know.  But I told DH that if he spent 2 months' salary on it I'd strangle him.  It's unique, and it's 'us' and I love it.

  • Biogirl, looks like you're on the wine and cheesecake train, too. Niffy, I hope you made mroe than one. LOTS of girls here who have fiances that don't love them enough to get them huge rocks.

  • No Fish, I won't tell you how much it cost, that wasn't where I was going with the post. I was just kind of sad to know how much he spent; but it was what he wanted to spend.
  • If it makes you feel better, the appraised value is likely to be much higher than what he paid for it.  Sometimes it can be as much as 2x what was paid.  I know the appraised value of mine, which I know is more than what he paid.  It was a lot and also kinda freaked me out a bit when I first saw it. Don't feel like a money grubber (unless you demanded he pay a certain amount, which it doesn't sound like).  Just enjoy the bling :).
  • I have 2 actually. But you are oing to have to explain to dh work wife why she isn't getting cheesecake for dessert tomorrow night.
  • as money said, the appraised value on my ring is exactly double what the H paid for it.i don't think that the ring = how much he loves you though. thats pretty shallow.
  • Yes.  We picked mine out together, and I was very conscious of our budget when we went.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Very true about the appraised value vs what he paid. I had to go in and clear up an issue with insurance (they will only insure for what he paid?) but the appraised value just from one year ago is a significant amount more.

  • Yes, I knew ballpark because we looked together.  I showed him ones I liked, he picked it out, and he put a bigger diamond in it than I would have picked out.  And, I had to take the appraisal to the insurance agency, since it has to be on our homeowners insurance (which technically is mine, since I owned the house before we met).  What he spent has nothing to do with how much he loves me.  I do understand the guilt, though.  I told him he could have given me any sort of ring or no ring at all - I wanted to marry him, not a piece of jewelry.

  • (they will only insure for what he paid?)Oh I think that's shady...mines insured for its appraised value.
