Rehearsal dinner question

Hello!

I am in a wedding on July 6th friday and the RD is the night before. I unfortunately cannot go to the RD because of work I am getting married in September and will have 2 weeks off, and I have been to other weddings and have other things going on this year, so I really can't take more time off.

The MOB is freaking out that I can't go to the RD because the coordinator says it's important everyone is there. I have been in many weddings and know what happens at a RD. I feel bad he is freaking her out for my opinion is for no reason.

Am I in the wrong?

Thank you in advance!

No, you're not wrong. Ceremonies are typically very basic and a rehearsal is rarely necessary at all. You're required to be there on the day of for the wedding only. What does the bride say?

  • You are fine.  If my rehearsal was on a Thursday I would expect that some people may struggle to get time off to be there.  I'm sure you will be able to catch up and figure out what to do.

  • Are you capable of walking in a straight line and then standing next to the bride for 15-30 minutes?  If so then that is all you need to know so a rehearsal is kind of pointless.

The MOB needs to calm down and their wedding planner needs to stop being a d*ck.

  • Is there is some synchronized dance and unless it is performed correctly the marriage is invalid?

MOB just needs to cool her jets especially since it sounds like the bride is fine.

  • No, you're not wrong. You have a life and can't be expected to be 100% available all the time.

  • Perhaps you should remind the MOB that it's not that polite to have a Friday wedding as most people do work for a living...and thus, she shouldn't expect you to be away for two days.
  • Thanks ladies, I was expecting the responses you're giving. The MOB is a control freak and needs to take a serious chill pill. I am so sick of this wedding, it's been a bunch of this shhhit.

The bride is not happy. I told her I couldn't go because of work, and she asked what time I was working until (6:30), and she says, 'Just let me know if you're coming after then. They start the walk through at 6'. Umm, no.

This is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this wedding. I could go on for a long time, but for example the wedding party 'has' to learn a flash mob dance for the reception.

  • funandfreckles- FI and I are having a Friday wedding for various reasons, but ours starts around 5:30. This wedding starts at 2:30! She has no concern but anyone but herself.

Really?  I hope she is prepared for many people not to show up.

And the flash mob thing, I would fake a sprained ankle to get out of that craziness.

  • OMG!! A flash dance is required!?!?! Seriously!?!?!  How old is the bride?!?!?

  • A flash mob dance and at 2:30 in the afternoon on a friday?  is this girl insane?  or did she just think this was the greatest idea ever.  I would never require such insane things from my friends.  It is more of a privilage to have bridesmaids and I do not think you should ask for outragous things that could probably make people uncomfortable,.  I realize it is "her day" but I think people need limits
