Destination Invitations

We're getting married in Jamaica and I'm trying to figure out the proper time to send out invitations.  My save the dates have already been ordered, they're going asap.

Re: Destination Invitations

  • If you are planning on inviting a lot of people I would start off by calling or emailing each person on your invite list. I am also having a destination type wedding (getting married on a cruise ship) and I notified everyone by email 1 year out so people could have enought time to budget or plan their vacations accordingly if they chose to come. I also, have created a wedding website with every little piece of information that they needed, such as pricing, dates, itinerary etc. Everyone was very happy that we gave them ample notice because the economy so tough right now. We are not sending ou save the dates because we notified everyone 1 year out however, for the guests who will only be attending the wedding/ reception (because we are getting married in port so the guests who are not coming on the cruise can get off the ship before it sails) we are sendiing the invites out 8-10 weeks in advance because the cruise lines needs to have a final count 1 month out.

I would def. not rely on invited being sent out only 8 weeks in advance because people have to plan vacations and save up for it in advance. You really want to notify them as soon as you have an exact date set!

    Hope this helps :)
  • Invitations usually still go out on the standard time frame, often STDs are sent out earlier than traditionally done and then your wedding website is used to convey information about the destination/booking/etc

<div>That's what save the dates, websites and word of mouth are for. The wedding requires travel, not a change in proper etiquette.</div>
