NWR/NER - Halloween costumes...

With H working nights, I've really been slacking on doing anything productive (outside of schoolwork). We're having a pumpkin carving party next week... very laid back, probably some burgers, a few apps (meatballs, taco dip), some beer, hot cider and we'll have a fire going in our firepit.

We've invited our friends to wear costumes if they'd like, and I know at least one pair is planning to. DH and I would like to as well, but haven't done anything in terms of getting them or putting them together.

Any ideas? I have an old costume at my parents' house, I think, from when I was little red riding hood as a grad school student (sadly, it will still fit). But if I do that, I have no clue what H would go as. We would like to coordinate.

We talked about going as Ketchup and Mustard and getting the 3 dogs hotdog costumes, but I haven't found any in stores yet. Haha.

Re: NWR/NER - Halloween costumes...

  • A couple years ago, I was a bathroom wall. White sweats, white hoodie, iron on transfer a bathroom sign on the back, toilet seat attached with a belt around the waist. Let people draw with sharpies all night. It was really interesting, that's for sure.

I stole this idea from my sister - she was the women's bathroom, her hubby was the men's. As long as your friends aren't the type to get drunk and use you for intended purposes, it's fun!

I saved the hoodie for our friend's christmas "ugly sweater party"... but my fiance wouldn't let me do it in the same year. I might wear it this year now that enough time has passed.

  • We have one party to go to, and BF hates Halloween.  I have a shark costume, so I wanted him to dress up as Uncle Sam, and I would be his loan shark.  He's not quite on board yet.

  • Halloween City has Ketchup and mustard costumes. I don't know if there are any around you. They also sell costumes for dogs, just not sure if they sell hotdog costumes.. GL!

  • FI loves Halloween.  We have vampire costumes that we will probably wear again this year.  We look good and we don't have to buy anything new.
  • The have hot dog ones at michaels believe it or not. That's where we got our dog her dragon costume lol
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions! I'll have to go look at some more stores, I think. H is totally for doing costumes, but hasn't done much in the way of suggestions and he keeps putting the kabash on what I suggest.

For some reason, I really want to wear a crazy wig... so I suggested Nikki Minaj and Lil' Wayne (H is covered in tattoos). But he said no because we're white and my backside isn't big enough. ha.

  • The ketchup and mustard with hotdogs sounds cute.

If you couldn't find everything, I'd get a headband and some furry fabric and make him some wolf ears to go with your old costume.

H and I aren't dressing up together this year. He is going to be spiderman, and I'm going to be a unicorn.

[QUOTE]We probably won't be going to any parties but I have always wanted to dress up as Claire and Bender from the Breakfast Club.

You guys could totally pull that off.  Must see pictures if you actually decide to go for it.

Oooh, that's a good idea. And his hair is badly in need of a haircut right now... so I wonder if he'd let me tease it out and hairspray it so it looks like the scruff of a wolf's neck? If he goes without shaving, he'll have a scruffy face, too. Hmmm...

A friend of mine asked for cheap/easy costume suggestions on FB the other day, these were some of the responses:

    - Go to a uniform store and buy scrub and lab jacket be a doctor
    - Bears Jersey + wings and wand or witch's hat and broom or some other fairytale accessories = "fantasy football".  If H does it too you're a "fantasy football team"
    - Witch w/ a tule skirt made tutu style (longer, not ballerina), fun striped tights (available at Joann's), black booties (I'm sure you have some of these) and a hat embellished with black feather boa and some other bling...
    - christmas tree: brown pants, green sweater and battery operated christmas lights wrapped around your torso..
    - crayon: dress all in one color and make 'dunce cap'' out of same colored construction paper, get gray paper and make crayola logo and pin to front and back of shirt....
buy a paper/cardboard skeleton and disassemble it at the joints. dress all in black and tape the skeleton pieces on to the black clothes.... if you can find a glow in the dark one it'll be better
  • I don't like spending money on costumes.  We get to dress up as work so I am putting kitty cat ears on a headband and using my makeup to make cat eyes, nose and whiskars.  I could shape my nails pointy and paint those as well for claws.

  • I did the ketchup and mustard thing one year. We just each wore red or yellow clothes and had cones made from the coordinating color posterboard on our heads.
Also did salt & pepper shakers. Wear white or gray clothes and make a domed "hat" out of a bowl and some aluminum foil.

I'm going to be a unicorn this year. White dress & tights, silver shoes and silver christmas garland as a mane and tail. DH is pondering some type of mythical creature to be. He's narrowed it down to Zeus, a Hydra, or a leprechaun.
  • We're not dressing up this year, but last year we were BIll and Sookie from True Blood. Two years ago we were a gangster and gun moll.

  • Swung by my parents' place and I think my probably donated my old costumes, as I couldn't find either my red riding hood costume or the pirate costumes I had. So, I'm back at square one.

We've considered the ketchup/mustard with just the appropriately colored clothing (rather than purchasing the "bottle" costumes). I LOVE the unicorn idea... I've considered going as a zebra, since I have a TON of zebra print clothing.

You all have some great ideas!
