  • Well, whatever we have or haven't heard of, it should be "the late" and not "the belated". It's not like he forgot somebody's birthday or something.

That sounds good to me. I think it's a dying tradition, but I still get these every once in a while from my relatives in the south.

EDIT: Except for the belated part, I missed that, listen to sarah.

You should probably edit your original post to remove last names.

But to answer the question, it looks fine except the belated/the late thing.

  • Just skip them as it's pretty poor etiquette to send written engagement announcements.  An announcement in your local newspaper is fine as is an engagement party

  • Am I the only one that's heard of these before?

While I didn't send them, I agree with everyone else that the proper verbage is "late" and not "belated" if you are going to send them out.

Is it truly poor etiquette? I've certainly heard of these before, especially for couples that don't live near their families. I've never heard that it was poor etiquette to send an engagement announcement. It's not like they are saying "Hey, we got engaged! Send us presents!" or something. They are just announcing the good news to their families.

  • I don't think this is poor etiquette at all. I've heard of these, although they're not common. I think it's a dying tradition, but one that I like.

ditto on the wording. "late" />> "belated"
