NWR-who is the favor for?

Ok, ladies.  I need you to settle an arguement for me. 
(names have been changed to protect the innocent)

Anne asks Betty for a favor, and Betty agrees to take care of it for Anne. 

Turns out, Betty has plans and can't do this favor. (picking up someone at the airport day of asking, 2 cars due to the number of people)

Betty then calls Cathy and asks her to do the favor that Anne asked her to do.

Is Cathy doing a favor for Betty or for Anne?

I feel like the favor is transferable. So since Betty agreed to do the favor and now can't, Cathy is doing Betty the favor by doing it.

I voted Betty.  Because Cathy wasn't asked by Anne, she was asked by Betty and is taking care of it because Betty can't.

My first thought was both - that wasn't an option so I think Betty since she agreed to do it - once that happened I think it became her responsibility.

I was asking for opinions.  Didn't know that had to matter. 

It matters to me because it is a source of a family fight and I wanted to get people's input who were not emotionally involved.

I think it's for both... Cathy is doing Betty a favor by doing Betty's task for her when she can't, and Cathy is also doing the favor for Anne who needed the favor in the first place.

Also if people in your family are fighting over who the favor is for, they have got to be the most boring people in the universe.  I can't imagine a more mundane thing to pick a fight over.

I say Cathy's doing Betty a favor, b/c Betty's the one who asked her.  Betty's still doing Anne a favor b/c she's getting it taken care of; she could have told Anne that she couldn't do it afterall and left it to Anne to find someone else....

I actually voted Ann. In the end, it's Ann that needs the favor done, therefore it's Ann that is getting the favor.  Betty is just the middle man now.

Good to hear, I would hope grandma wasn't stranded.

Were there no taxis available at the airport?  I travel a lot for work and I've never been to an airport that doesn't have ground transportation available.

Answer the question.  Not tell me how silly the arguement is.  I know how silly it is.  Why do you think I would ask complete strangers for their opinion?  So I could get an unbiased answer on who was responsible so I could go back and say....see, look! I think Betty couldn't pick Grandma up from the airport because she had a meeting with her drug dealer. Cathy did her a solid because she owes Betty for some meth she stole last week.

Grandma wasn't mad because Cathy gave her a hit off the crack pipe on the way home.

Everyone is happy. What's the problem?

I was going to say both, but it isn't an option. Cathy is doing a favor for Betty by doing the favor Betty said she would do for Anne. But since it's Anne's guest, it's a favor to Anne, too.

If I had to choose, I'd say more Anne than Betty. In the end, Betty wasn't able to fulfill the favor to Anne so now the favor to Anne is now being done by Cathy.


Who is paying for the gas money? Just curious.

I think both Betty said she would get the favor done and she did dhe just didn't do it herself, and Cathy did a favor for Betty by doing it and in a roundabout way completeing the favor for Anne. Either way it got done and that is the important thing
