Guuuyyys

I'm bored. H is at work, Leo is sleeping, and I'm watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding for the second time today. Help. Entertain me. Please?

Have you seen any good movies lately? Any terrible ones? Have any weird dreams? Any decorating plans for those of you who aren't sick of them? Any new pets? Any crazy wedding stories or wedding stuff you're obsessed with but can't afford/you're already married/it's unneccesary? Any confessions or complaints? Funny pictures? SOMETHING.
Leo says hi. He's...special.

[QUOTE]Sarah- I saw It's Complicated with my mom last weekend. I thought John Krasinski was the best part of the movie, he cracked me up :)

I definitely agree with that. He was hysterical.

My problem with it was sort of similar to the problem I've had with Up in the Air, Precious, and a bunch of other movies this fall - at the end, I wasn't really sure how we were supposed to feel about the story arc the character had experienced. I mean, it's fine to have ambiguous endings from time to time, but really, somebody should take a stand already.

Nebb, I really loved 500 Days of Summer too. It seems like there's been a real backlash against it because the Summer character is so awful, but I think the fact that she's a sociopath is one of the things that make it great. We all get into stupid relationships from time to time.

  • We just watched whip it this afternoon, id love to just roll around kicking ass, that would be so fun. I dont know how to skate though, so that poses a problem.

tlv i loved the house too - id just LOVE IT if I had an awesome house hanging out unused, you know completely unoccupied and PERFECT. I love big old houses like that though.
  • I cannot possibly express how much I hated 500 Days of Summer. Or really even why I hated it, other than the whole thing was just so desperate and emo and pathetic it made me want to puke.

Did anyone else see A Serious Man? Just me? I want to talk about that movie so much but NOBODY'S seen it and it makes me sad because it was incredible.

  • I saw 500 days of summer on a plane recently and thought it was a sweet movie. I didn't find Summer's character to be dislikable, either.
  • I am a little sad BSC and KUI are not there :(
  • agreed Meghan esp KUI. That confused me for over a month.

the one I still cant figure out is GBCK. I get what it means but not the actual words.

  • Brie, A Serious Man is on my list, and it's playing in one of the art theaters here in Milwaukee. If I can convince FI to go and see it with me this week, I'll page you and we can talk about it.

Whip It definitely rocked. More people should have gone to see it.

I understand that 500 Days of Summer had a lot of emo affectations.... but then I loved it anyway. JGL was just so earnest, it was great. I also really liked the "Roses are red, Violets are blue, Fuuck you whore" valentine card.

I think it was a little... awkward to watch because most of us have had a boyfriend like that who just screams of desperation. When you get beyond that internal sense of cringe-worthiness triggered by the movie, I think it was actually quite good.

  • I thought summer was just... indifferent to him. My friend and I had a discussion about how no one has ever been so tortured/in love with us, like he was with summer. I think she just didnt feel the same, and since the story is basically from his point of view, it makes her look bad. I love Zooey Deschanel though, i like her in everything ive seen her in.
  • GBCK = Good bye cruel knot
  • I think what bothered me about her is the whole "not wanting to call it a relationship" thing. She basically toyed with him the entire time, for one reason or another, and I didn't read it as something being inherently wrong with him, but with the situation. Heck, I'm pretty desperately in love with FI. If he suddenly decided that he didn't want to put labels on our relationship anymore, I would go kinda nuts.

  • ahh thanks Meghan, you make my (P)&E life better!

I also like 500 days of Summer, but it was very Emo.

  • I did like the Valentine in 500 Days of Summer. I also thought the musical sequence was pretty fun. I didn't find JGL's earnestness endearing, I thought he came off like a stupid twit who needed to be kicked in the balls a few times. But then again, I'm not big into romance movies in general.

Sarah, go see A Serious Man if you can find it. Google "Schroedinger's Cat," read the book of Job, and brush up on your Kabbalah first. It's a doozy. Possibly my favorite Coen brothers movie ever.

  • I think that even though she didn't realise it, the reason she was so resistant to a relationship didn't rest solely on her past so much as it did on the fact that together they just weren't right for one another. I don't think she meant to lead him on, though.

(well, actually, I don't think she meant to do anything at all given she's not a real person! haha).

On that note, I must go and get ready to head to the movies!

  • I think the problem with their relationship, from the get go, was he cared far more than she did. She didnt "want" a relationship (atleast with him), and he did, she just went along with it for a while. I think relationships where one person cares a lot and the other doesnt care very much, there will always be problems. Especially if youre as intense as JGL.

You and hot FI both care about eachother in the same way, so I dont think either of you has been the "desperate" one throughout the relationship, like JGL was.
  • We're going to see Avatar in 3D. It's long, so I hope it's good ;)
  • I can agree with what both of you guys are saying. I saw the movie twice, and both times I was just so caught up in his character and enjoying him so much that I thought about her less. Both characters are incredibly youthful and immature, and both make the kind of mistakes that maybe they wouldn't have made, meeting two or three years down the road. I know I had to learn how not to break a guy's heart the hard way, in a couple of high school and college relationships. Likewise, I had to learn when it is and isn't good to throw your entire heart into a relationship.

This reminds me, I need to go buy that movie and add it to my collection.

I definitely didn't look at my watch once when I went to see Avatar, so given how long it is, that's something. Plus, all the glowing plants are pretty.

And Nebb I love big old houses too, clearly :)

  • I had a nightmare about my wedding last night, which took place 6 MONTHS AGO. In the dream we had 2 weddings and I was upset when nobody showed up to the second one. Wtf?

Also, I watched World's Greatest Dad with Robin Williams last night and really enjoyed it. Kind of sad, but good all the same.
  • I love atonement! watch it asap!! I know a lot of people dont like it, but I love how haunting the story is, how sad it is. Ive watched it many times.
