So when we were sending thank you's, H noticed that his one aunt wasn't on the spreadsheet we had made of the gifts.  (We went through the stack of cards we had and wrote them down together).  He insisted that she'd sent us a $100 check.  He was even sure of the amount.  We'd already deposited them at this point so we couldn't double check.  He wrote her a thank you along with the others because he was SURE she must have sent us something (with his reasoning being that he remembered getting it, plus "she's rich, of course she sent us something!")

So he gets a call from his mother today that this aunt called her saying "I got the nicest thank you card from Tommy and Allison, but...I didn't send them a check yet"  :::head desk:::

That is something my H would do.  I put him in charge of his familys thank you cards.  He says he did them and sent them out.  I'm not 100% convinced that he actually did.

We had the same deal.  But I know he did because I addressed, stamped and put his in the mailbox.  I promised I would do the addresses if he just wrote them.

Haha yeah, I wouldn't put it past my H to do the same thing. This is why I was crazy anal about recording every gift, card, check, etc. in 1 notebook which has been our Thank You Card Bible. If it hasn't been crossed off, the card hasn't been written. I'm hoping this theory turns out to be foolproof. LOL!

Just stick to your list, AK!  That's what I should have done, but instead I let H convince me that we'd missed one.

Oh no!  That is so embarrasing!

i Think the opposite thing happened to us last night.  H insists that he wrote thank you notes to 2 of his family friends, but they aren't crossed off on our list. 

I really don't know what the best way to handle is is:  have his mom ask her friends if they got a TY?  Write a 2nd TY without checking if they received one already?  Don't write one at all?
