Thanks & Oral Surgery update

Hey guys!
I just wanted to thank everybody who offered their advice and experiences in my other thread.  I was really nervous about it and it made me feel so much better to hear that the majority of people were over their wisdom teeth removals pretty quickly!

I had all four out yesterday and it went perfectly. I've been eating lots of soup and haven't really experienced any swelling or bruising yet- and they're just a little sore- no pain!  I've been icing on and off though.  My stomach is a little iffy, but I'm sure thats the heavy meds.  We even managed to go get our marriage certificate yesterday; our wedding is next Saturday!

So thanks again! You guys made me feel so much better about the whole ordeal and knowing what to expect :)

  • Glad to hear it went well. Enjoy your wedding!

  • Did they give you one of those curved plastic syringe-y type thing to clean out the holes?  Fun stuff!
    Anniversary
  • Yes, I have little stitches which I presume will come out on Monday when I go for my checkup!
I don't have a syringe thing, but I do have this NASTY mouthwash... talk about intense. Holy crap. I can hardly stand it for 30 seconds.
  • Oh gross... yeah, probably a good idea.
  • Ooh ya, your going to want one of those syringes.  Food rotting in the sockets would be nasty and can get infected and give you super bad breath.

Everybody is different but I wouldn't take the pain meds.  I took one as directed on my med schedule and it made me ill.  I didn't take any more and didn't even need any.  It just didn't hurt.  Maybe a little sore when I looked upwards but not something worth taking pain meds for.
  • Def get the syringe.  I didn't get mine the day of the surgery, but the dr gave me one when I went in for him to check it.  They are gross to use, but very helpful.
  • I will get a syringe! I really don't want anything sitting back there.
How long until the craters heal up?
  • Glad it all went well!  Agree with the plastic syringe being a (kinda gross) lifesaver!  But disagree with the PP about pain meds - if you're not going anywhere and are able to just hang out, go ahead and take one.  What's the sense of being in pain for no reason?

  • I'm not so sure about the pain meds... I'm going to try to take some advil tonight instead of the meds because they made me SO sick this afternoon.
The whole room was spinning and I thought I was going to be sick to my stomach... since my teeth aren't hurting REALLY bad (and haven't, even this morning when I woke up), I'm willing to try a less serious medicine to as least see if I can get away with it.
I'm trying to be at least partially functional around the house (laundry and dishes, ect). I couldn't even sit up this afternoon.
I'm going to call the Dr. tomorrow and ask if he could suggest an alternative?  I'm on oxycodon now.
  • I took three ibuprofen at dinner and it seems to be helping just as much as the oxy.  I'll do that from now on, given it doesn't come with the room-spinning side effect.
  • Glad to hear things went well... just don't forget to be careful for the next few days
