Where's Fishy when you need her?

We're giving my FFIL $100 towards a bbq. We were going to get him gift certificates, but, decided that we'll give him a home-made gift certificate and give him $100 when he picks one out to put towards it. We didn't want to limit him to just one store.

So, I'm working on making this little certificate, but have NO idea what to put on it. Any ideas?

  • Can't you just get him an Amex gift certificate? I dunno, that's just my opinion but when it comes to the holidays I have so much to do I just look for the easy way out when it comes to last minute items.
  • 1. Not a lot of places in Canada - especially around here accept Amex.

    2. Any other CC GC aren't the easiest things to purchase in this tiny town.

    3. It isn't last-minute, I'm just making up the certificate last-minute because I put it off too long. I've got everything else go to in the bbq gift basket that I need - a nice bbq sauce, a set of basting brushes, a sachet of dry rub...

  • That sounds fun, I wish I was creative enough to make something up for you
  • Oh I didn't mean to imply that your gift was last minute, just the GC part. I'm the type of person who will buy gifts through-out the year and put them away to give to someone on Christmas, but I always leave wrapping to the last minute... so I take the easy way out and just put the gifts in gift bags I get from the dollar store.

I was just trying to offer an easier solution. Your idea sounds better any way.

  • Print out a pic of a BBQ from the internet.  Cut it out and glue it on the inside of a homemade card.  You could even leave the top of the BBQ unglued to the card to slip the $100 into.

  • good idea B!

I think I got something figured out...I just made a little card that says,

    Our gift to you...
    $100 towards a new barbeque!

Then I put a couple clip art images I found on there.

  • Why don't you just put a $100 in the card you made?  Then you won't have to worry about him having to ask for the money later when he finds the grill... Cute present ;)
