XP: Dance Floor Alternatives

Hi Ladies,

I'm having some issues regarding the dance floor. Our reception will be outdoors and we want to boogy the night away. This means procurring a dance floor of some type (about $500 to rent one).  We have the option of using the covered patio adjacent to the lawn where dinner will be set up, but I'm worried it'll look awkward. It's bigger than these pictures show, but my main concern are the wooden beams in the middle.

Thoughts? Have other questions regarding details I might have left out? Btw, please throw out any other suggestions regarding an alternative dance floor that doesn't cost $500.

Thank you!

PS- I also posted this on budget weddings, but am looking for ideas from anyone willing to share!

  • I think the patio is beautiful, and would make a great dance spot - I understand your concern about the beams though, especially from a safely standpoint. One option might be wrapping some sort of lights around them that would provide a fun glow, and make them more visible to people.

This is a wonderfully beautiful idea! Great venue choice!
  • Is the floor of th patio completely smooth? Because if it isn't you might want to reconsider.

  • The flooring is a large tiled patio. It may have super small cracks, but I don't remember. I think the surface is ok though, I know that's something I would have realized if it wasn't suitable.

Do you think people will feel too removed? There's a substantial entry way on either side, but that iron fencing is staying right where it is.
  • I've been to an outside dance and they used pallets and plywood and painted the plywood

  • That's a really pretty spot, and the lights would look great.

I don't think it's too removed, but I would have some seating along the edges for people who want to rest but not go all the way back to their tables, or people who want a better view of your first dance.
