I got sent home from work today...

Because I've had mono for 6 weeks apparently. So I get to hang out with you guys all day! And I'm not allowed to do anything because my spleen is enlarged. At least now I'll have time to make those wedding albums.

Re: I got sent home from work today...

  • how have you had it for 6 weeks without noticing? why bother sending you home at this point?
  • Oh dear. Mono is turrible. Hope you get to feeling better! I thought I had it a while back, but it was just some funky bug. Does it hurt right below your rib cage because of the spleen enlargement thing? That's why the doctors thought I had mono, because I had this weird pain in my ribcage.

  • Ditto Daff.

It seems anything that would have been spread already had its chance.
  • Probably because her spleen is enlarged.  When I had mono the doctor told me I couldn't even go for a walk (not that I had the energy) because spleens are apparently incredibly fragile organs.

  • I hear about all these people who get to stay home from work and school when they had mono, but when I had it in middle school, I had to go every day. No fair.

  • Well, I've noticed. I just chalked it up to the nature of my work. I think they sent me home because they felt bad about making me work through the worst of it.

How did you even stay awake?  When I had it I slept for 22 hours a day for almost two weeks.

Me too.  Also, the only things I ate were what my parents pretty much forced down my throat.

  • yuck! that sucks.  I got it my first year of college, unfortunately it was over Christmas break.  I remember my armpits had big old lumps under them.  it was weird.

  • Arb - Typically, younger children get cold-like symptoms. Babies get mono all the time, but parents just think it's a cold. So, you could have been young enough that it didn't affect you as much.

I don't remember - I was diagnosed with it the day before Christmas, so I had about a week after that when we were out of school to rest, and then in late January I got appendicitis.  So I think I was running out of sick days and couldn't afford to miss more school so I had to go.

  • My brother had mono, man he was really sick. He could barely move out of the bed for about two weeks and also had an enlarged spleen.

  • Mono is the suck. I went to the dr the day after my HS graduation because I thought I had strep and it turned out I had mono. Nothing says fun like spending the entire summer between HS and college in bed.

I had it for 4 weeks before it was diagnosed.  I felt awful, went to a walk in clinic and got sent home by that quack with some antibiotics.  By the time I realized that wasn't helping me and I got an appt with my real doctor I got 3 weeks off of work mainly because it isn't about it being contagious, it's about letting your body heal.
