Another is this really BREAKING NEWS??

Jay Leno's prime-time show is ending next month.

Apparently AP and CNN think this is breaking news.

Aren't you glad I shared this very important news?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: Another is this really BREAKING NEWS??

  • H told me that yesterday. Apparently he's going back to the 11:30 slot and they told Conan to either go back to late night or quit.  Well, at least according to H. However, I don't think CNN needs to be focusing on it. Definitely not breaking news.

  • Thrilled. I am always amazed at CNN's timely and conscientious reporting.

  • Sad, sad state of affairs when something like that qualifies as breaking news.

That's completely lame but has become the norm.  When I hear "Breaking news" on the tv, it should be worth rushing to the tv so as not to miss something important.

SD is lame but even our breaking news is better than that.

  • anna - that sorry is so sad.

St Thomas does not have breaking news.  We have 2 local new programs at 7 pm M-F.  Other news is on the AM radio or the paper (M-S).

To me breaking news is  something that effects a large amount of people right then and there.   Major natural disasters, fires, road blocks, serial killers on the loose, some gov't things, etc. Things that would directly effect us here and now.

Most breaking news stories are not really important enough to announce to the world or local area right at that moment.  Do not get me wrong, the story should be told, it just does not need to be immediately told.

  • I agree Lynda.  When I hear breaking news, to me that means, stop what you're doing and pay attention, this is important.  Jay Leno's show, while I think he's cool and all and I like his show, does not qualify as breaking news.  Neither is most entertainment industry related news to me; sure, it'll be important in some respects, but I can wait 8 hours for the 10pm news to hear about it.
  • Yeah, that "breaking news" is like 2 days old.

  • I literally had the same thought when I got my "breaking news" email update on that today. WTF?

I originally signed up for breaking news emails from CNN after 9/11...you know, when I thought there are things like terrorist attacks that, yeah, I need to know about RIGHT NOW. Jay Leno? Not so much.
  • ten - that is when I signed up for mine.

When I got my IPHONE I signed up for AP alerts  *thinking* they would treat breaking news a little differently than CNN.

Apparently I was wrong. Just after midnight on Friday morning I received a breaking new alert that Alabama won the BSC title game.   Really?  That could not have just been a regular news story.

  • I signed up then too Ten and Lynda.  THAT, or something similar, is breaking news.  Most of the time I don't even open the CNN emails anymore because it's almost always some useless bit of news that could have waited until a regular newscast.
  • Everything this week was just roumered and not official, i actually am glad to finally know wtf is going on with this situation. Im lame and have been watching it closely because I like both leno and conan and I think conan is getting the shitty end of the stick if he is forced to change time just because leno's new show sucks. Im going to be pissed if I cant watch conan again because hes on too late.
