Wedding Photography

I'm just wondering, how many photos were included in your wedding photography package? I'm trying to get some sort of idea of what to expect before I meet with photographers. Thanks.

  • We weren't given a limit.  We ended up with about 500 and the photographers were there for almost 6 hours.

  • We were never told an amount.  Our package was all day and a CD with full printing rights.  He was there from 1pm-10:30pm, and ended up going to 5 different locations. 

    We didn't go with a regular wedding photographer though.  Ours did photography on the side and had done a wedding where I'd seen the pics, and a friend of mine works with him.  We paid $750 total and ended up with 997 pics on our CDs.  Many were edits or color changes.  We couldn't have been happier with our pictures, and personally I thought they were better than a friends who paid $2k for her wedding.

  • Wow, 400 and 997 both seem like a LOT of pics to me. It must have took hours to go through all the pics to put in an album!

    We have full day coverage, 2 photographers. We're guaranteed 250+ fully edited images, plus ALL of the pictures taken burned to a separate disk. We also get 2 albums w/ that.
  • We took the CD to Wal-Mart and printed out all of them for about $160.  Then we made our own album from there.  It was a lot to go through but we had a lot of fun, and drank a lot of the champagne we were given. 

    I would sit down with your FI and decide what is most important to you for photography.  Do you want lots of posed shots or more candids?  Do you have several locations you want pictures at?  How many hours total will you need?  Then have the list of questions to ask your potential photogs.  We had no interest in getting albums since the cost is so outrageous.  But many people think the album is crucial, so its really just personal preference.  For us the cost per hour and cost per location was most important, and obviously also the photog's skill level.

  • We didn't have a limit.  The photographer stayed for about 4 hours.  He got the arrival at the ceremony site, ceremony, formal pics, and first part of the reception.  We got a CD with all pictures, and reproduction rights.  We put together our own album.  All told, I think there were about 900 pictures.
    Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • 1st wedding: Don't remember the exact number, but it was about 1,000 proofs. From there, we could make the book whatever size we wanted. He and an assistant were there from about 5 for formals to 12:30 when the reception ended.

    2nd wedding: very intimate wedding of just 13 people. We had our cocktail hour first and a photographer there who took formals of all us in various groupings and then ceremony pics (about a 10 minute ceremony). He left once the luncheon started. I think we got about 75 pics on CD. I still have to make the albums!
  • I would make sure that there is a minimum amount in the contract. That way you know you'll at least get that many.

  • I believe our contract was for a minimum of 300 edited images, but we received more than that (although I think that was mostly because my photog loved our wedding and was an acquaintance of ours).
  • We had 2 photographers for about 9 hours and received 1300 edited pictures. Wayyy more than I was expecting! Not all of them are good (out of focus, repeats of a previous shot, etc), of course--but I love the majority. She guaranteed that we would receive 600-800 minimum.

  • We had 2 photographers for 8 hours. The package was not for any specific number (other than a proof book with the "best" 300). They took about 3,500 total pictures. She's still working on the editing/choosing but she estimated we would get at least 1,000 on our disc when it's said and done.

    We had a set number of hours. Many photographers will also tell you that x hours = around x number of photos. Our photographer was there for 8+ hours - a few getting ready pics, then WP pics at 2 locations, then ceremony, family, a few of us alone, and reception. We got about 750 pictures.

    We have a CD with reproduction rights. We picked our photographer based on her work, how well we got along with her when we met, and her excitment over our ideas (off-site WP shots at a few downtown locations).

    That's what our photog has told us.  She takes over 200 photos/hour.

  • I don't think she meant how many pictures the photographer is going to shoot I think she means how many PRINTS you get........to answer the question:

    Our photographers(we got 2 in our package) are going to be there for the whole day.....no time limit on hours because they are both traveling from 4 hours away and we put them up in a hotel room on the wedding location...only cost another $100...and in return they are going to shoot from the moment we start getting ready on the wedding day and they are even doing  the after wedding brunch the next day.  Our package includes 1 8x10, 4 5x7's, 8 4x6's, a 10x10 leatherbond book of images from the wedding...full pages with a picture used as a background not just images placed on a blank page, free engagement session with 100 engagement business size cards, a website for family and friends to look at with our images, a DVD slide show, and we had the option of 2 parent books or a CD with full rez and printing rights(we choose the CD of course because I'm a Photographer and can make the parent books myself :) and also order larger size prints from the printing company I order from).  We spent a toatl of $2900 for everything including the hotel room.
