How much should I help with my own bachelorette party??

How much I should be involved in the planning of my own bachelorette party?? I live in Chicago and none of my bridesmaids live here.  Chicago would be the best central location though. My MOH really wants to do a bachelorette party for me, but she lives way out on the East Coast so it would be very hard for her to coordinate much from there. I have two close friends in the city who probably would help, but both of them are getting married too next year, and I don't want to stress them out by asking them for help.

So my question is - is it rude for me to do a lot of the coordinating/planning for my own party? It would be low-key and I'm thinking we would do it as a joint bachelorette party/St. Patrick's Day celebration.

What do you girls think I should do??

  • I think you can suggest severl places or ideas since you are familiar with the area, but I would leave it at that. You don't know what kind of budget they are working with or if they have other ideas already in mind.

  • We had my bachelorette party in Austin.  My MOH lives in San Diego.  I just gave her several ideas of things I might like to do and she ran with it.

I will say that we went and saw a variety show that was similar to Second City and everyone had a blast.  If your girls aren't from Chicago, I'd highly recommend going there, it's always a good time!

That's exactly how I would have answered this question :)

  • Great!! Thanks for the feedback ladies, I think that's exactly what I'll do...just suggest a few local things and let my MOH be the boss :)

@jenb I will definitely suggest Second City!! I was actually just in Milwaukee for a bachelorette party and we went to a comedy club. It was really fun!
  • I know a lot of the brides on here frown upon planning your own shower, but I basically did my whole party. It wasn't a normal bach party. The BMs only had to pay for one thing, which I asked them all in advance because none of them really know each other and so I was the glue. They all thought my idea sounded fun and we went with it. And the cost was $10 so it wasn't ridiculous. It was more of a "all the BMs hangout" instead of a bach party. I kept them all informed of the cost and wouldn't have done it if someone wasn't okay with it.
