Ring sizing?

My cousin's FI just go her e-ring back from getting it resized and it's still sliding around her finger. A while back, someone here posted about adjusters, but I can't find the post or remember what they were called.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Ring sizing?

  • Is it sliding around to the point where it can slide off or is the center stone just moving around back and forth?  I prefer mine to be a little loose so it doesn't feel tight when I am bloated/overheated.  If it can potentially fall off though, I would have it resized.  I'm not a huge fan of the whole spacers concept.
  • SPacers are meant to be a temp fix.

  • I know that some jewelers will put little rivot-eque thing inside the band instead of doing a full-blown resizing. Perhaps she could look into that? It could keep it from sliding around too much while leaving enough room for bloating/overheating at Kaiti mentioned.
  • I am currently having sizing beads put in my ring. It's top heavy so it always falls over and between my fingers. My jewler called them speed bumps.

She said the diamond keeps turning around or falling to the side. I'll let her know about the beads. She said she tried the ring on at the jewelers and fit perfectly...and now it's just spinning.

    edit: THANKS!!

  • Are her hands usually cold? I would really wait until summer and see if it fits then.

  • My ring fits differently at all different times of the day so if it did fit well when she was at the jewelers she may want to live with it for awhile and see how it goes.  It's also the winter time (I don't know where your friend lives) and if it's really cold your fingers are smaller, it could get too tight in the summer if her fingers swell.

  • She's in Orlando. She's had it back a few days and it just flips around. I just told her about the beads so she'll look into that.

  • I wouldn't get it resized - between temperature, salt intake, and time of the month it can go from lose to snug pretty quick.

If turning bugs her a ton though - the sizing beads are an idea. Also, the design of my ring is such that the bottom is actually flat, and it doesn't really turn because of that. But, for most rings that isn't an option.
  • I had a ring guard for about a month and don't recommend it as anything other than a temporary fix.  Even though mine was professionally installed by a jeweler, it started to warp and slide after about a week or so.  Even worse, the fake gold stained my skin -- which made my FI paranoid, because he was afraid people would see it and assume that the ring itself was fake.

Edit: I  think a ring guard is different from a spacer, though.  A ring guard is a little strip of metal or plastic that goes straight across the bottom curve of the ring, and a spacer is an insert that pads the inside circumfrence (I think?).

  • Every ring I've ever worn spins around. I have these little friendship rings that I bought from work and all they do is turn turn turn. But they're cheap, so I don't care. If my future wedding ring does this, I'll probably look into the beads.
