So, since the adoption/NPR thread is dead, I wanted to reply here:

Yes, that would be awesome if some of our relatives crossed paths, and not completely unlikely.

Short story:  My mom came on the Freedom Flights with my grandparents when she was 15 and they were in their 50's.  They lived in S. FL until 1996 when they moved to C. FL with my family.  When we got to C. FL, we needed new doctors so my Dad asked some of his contacts.  Our family physician was referred to my Dad by a friend in an "Oh, this guy is Cuban, you guys will probably love him and your FIL can communicate with him in Spanish" kind of way.  So, we all started going to this doctor.  After a few years of being his patients, we were invited to the doc's son's birthday (circa 2001).  My grandfather met the boy's grandfather and they realized they grew up together in Cuba.  It was one of the most heart warming things to see two 80+ year old men get teary over memories.

  • Ah, yes.  The lottery!

    One of my mom's child hood friends came several years ago and is now trying to bring her daughter and her children too.  Crossing our fingers...
