Female usher?

We have 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen.

Based on the size of our guest list We will need 3 ushers but only have two guys chosen so far. Would it be ok to ask a close girlfriend to be the 3rd?

  • Absolutely!

  • Yes, that would be fine.  You can also ask your Groomsmen to do it, if you don't want additional ushers.

  • Our colors will be royal blue and black. I was thinking of asking her and she could wear a nie tasteful black cocktail dress. Right?

  • Well...I'm generally against dictating what your ushers wear.  If she already HAS a black cocktail dress, that would be ok, but making her go out and buy something kind of sucks.  Making ushers rent tuxes or buy suits sucks too.  I mean, they're basically there to do a JOB for you.

  • If we do ask her I was already planning for her to wear something she already has.

  • Get her a corsage and let her wear what she wants.

We had our uncles be ushers, which worked well--we had mostly family at our wedding, so most of the guests new some of the ushers (who were just greeting them and offering programs and head coverings).  We got them boutonnieres, so we told them that if they wanted to wear a jacket, they would have a bout, otherwise it didn't matter.
  • Now that women are allowed to vote and hold jobs and everything, it would probably be fine to have one walk some people to their seats at a wedding. I'm not trying to be mean, but I really think this was a ridiculous question. I hope she won't get power mad once you ask her and try to wear PANTS

LOL.  Actually my fiance is having a woman stand on his side (a groomswoman or whatever you want to call her), and she has decided she wants to wear a suit like the guys.
