I have a friend who was planning to get married in July 2013. She and her FI have lived together for a few years and their parents are not supporting them.
As soon as they got engaged, the MOB and MOG started applying intense pressure for the two of them to tie the knot in Summer 2012, because of the whole 'living in sin' thing. Bride told them, 'we want to be financially stable and not go into debt for one day'. Pressure continued. Now they've cut her and her FI off.
I think that the bride's answer was more than reasonable. However, while it hurts to not have the Moms involved, I believe that the bride was within her rights here.
