How is a wedding invitation worded when there's a gap? (dumb question alert)

We just got our invitation to some friends' Catholic wedding. The mass is at 11:30 AM, and the invitation says "Reception to follow." I'm assuming that means the reception directly follows the mass, but from hanging out here, I know that a lot of Catholic weddings have gaps, so I'm not so sure. If there were a gap, the invitation would have specified a particular time, as opposed to "follow," right?
