I just got this text message from my mom:
"Would you please invite my friend Diane to your wedding? She just told me she took the day off for it."
The thing is, I don't know Diane. I have absolutely no idea who she is or why she would take the day off for a wedding that she hadn't been invited to. All I can think of is that my mom told her she would be invited. If it was just this person, I would consider inviting her but 1) I don't know her 2) I don't know who all she would intend to bring with her 3) We're completely maxed out for numbers (we're actually a little over, but are making cuts elsewhere) and 4) I've already turned down several requests to invite her friends, my dad's friends, my grandparent's friends.
I want to tell her no, but my mom doesn't always take rejection well. Any words of advice on how to let my mother down gently that at this point, I just can't invite her and her potential family.
