Tipping the Photographer/Videographer

I have seen posts about tipping, but also about not tipping the photographer/videographer until after the wedding when you've actually 'seen' their work.

My question is this... Assuming this is appropriate, as you cannot possibly tell if you love their work or not until you actually see it, how do you handle the day of, and not have it be that they feel like you 'stiffed" them, or weren't happy?

I don't want any bad feelings on my wedding day, or to feel like a neglectful or unappreciative bride.

You simply say thank you to those vendors.  If they make you feel bad then they aren't deserving of a tip!  They need to prove themselves first so when you see their work, then it's completely appropriate to tip and include a little note thanking them for doing such great work.
  • We tipped full amount the night of, but we had seen lots of the photographers work prior to the wedding so we had no doubt she would do a great job. I think you will get a good feeling of the how they are based on how they conduct themselves during the day. Were they helpful in getting people lined up for photos, were they polite, were they creative in setting up poses, etc.
