FML...This is not a great start to 2012

Just when I didn't think things could get any worse. I was let go this morning. Out of the blue. No real reason other than, "we don't think this is a good fit". The boss said he's not ready to put production in to the DC market now for several years and he's not doing me any favors by keeping me around. So as of 11am I'm officially unemployed.

I've never been let go. I've always left jobs on my own terms. I'm completely terrefied and devastated.

  • mk, I'm so sorry sweety, that really just sucks a big fat donkey's a$$.

I hope this is a blessing in disguise and gives you a little bit of time to get things in order so you can move/transition much easier.  Sometimes you get in through a back door you weren't expecting.
  • Oh no, MK. I'm so sorry.

I believe in yoooooou! Get the knot girls on the interwebs - lets get you a job, STAT.
  • Oh no that's horrible! I will pray that you'll find something new soon!

  • Oh MK, I'm so sorry to hear this! JCB is right though. You will be okay, you just have to believe that. Getting down on yourself and staying that way will only make things worse. *hugs*
  • oh my gosh!  I'm so sorry!  Hopefully the rest of 2012 will hold much happier things :-/
  • *HUGS* MK.  I'm so sorry.

That's a low blow, and I'm sure it was nothing you did wrong.  Head up, there's something better coming your way.

Mkrupar, I am so sorry.  I've been let go before and it hurts a lot.

Definitely apply for unemployment as soon as you can, so you have some income.  Do you know of any recruiters who specialize in your industry?

It will be ok.  I don't want to sound trite or like I don't take this seriously, but sometimes being let go gives you time to think about what you really want to do, and the days off allow you to do some things you would have not gotten the chance to do.  Hugs!

ETA, sorry!  misspelled your name (and after that long thread about name spellings, I should have known better.)

  • Mk, I'm so sorry! You JUST started working with this guy too, right? That sucks that he couldn't have figured his plans out before dragging an innocent employee into the mix. Job vibes for you!
  • Aw MK. I'm so sorry. Chin up, girl. Things happen for a reason, I really believe that.
  • Ugh that feeling sucks.  I agree with Stacks though! This really could be a blessing in disguise.  I'm so sorry :(
  • I'm so sorry :(
  • MK, I am so sorry to hear this.

Hopefully this will end up as a blessing in disguise and something much better will come of it.
  • Oh MK...I'm so sorry. Like Stacks said, you've just got to believe that this is really a blessing in disguise. Take the day, drink a gigantic bottle of wine, and get back on track. I'm positive that there are good things in store for you.
  • M, I'm so sorry to hear that!

Best of luck and lots of hugs!

    Jill gives good advice.
  • I'm definitely taking this as a blessing, it's just really shocking and surprising. Now we're at this crazy impass of "Well are we really just not meant to move up there" and "Slam the resume together ASAP and find a job up there." Lucas might be able to transfer back down here with his company, which in reality would be easier because then we're just faced ith me having to find a job. If we keep on the pth we're on we're faced with me finding a job AND selling/renting the house AND finding a place up there.

Jill no wine for me. I did come home and immediately go for a run to clear my head. I'm also going to surprise my old trainer by going to bootcamp tonight. Exercise is my therapy at this point, and I need lots of it.

  • Mk you should be really proud of yourself.  The fact that you ran right after and are going to bootcamp tonight mean you've made some seriously amazing life changes in regards to your health.  I'd like to think you should focus on the fact that you've probably hit a new milestone in regards to fitness.  It's really an integrated part of your life now.  That's fabulous!
  • Aw MK, I am so so sorry. I believe every thing happens for a reason so hopefully something good is supposed to come out of this. I've never been let go from a job either so I have no idea how you feel. I'm glad you've found some sort of therapy for youself though. Just keep your head up.
  • Oh man, MK.  I'm so sorry.  Major good vibes coming your way.  I wish I could hug you.

  • Oh no! I'm really sorry!
File this one under blessing in disguise, as something better is sure to come along.

  • Emily - Yes, this was the job I was just hired for, like 3 months ago.

Stacks - When I called Lucas and told him he told me to go home, relax, and workout, because even he knows how important that is now. My dad actually said the same thing. I've got some wise men in my life.
