Anyone from Montreal?

FI and his buddies want to go to Montreal for his bachelor party.  (They're planning, but consulting him.)  The best weekend for them to go happens to be Good Friday & they're worried everything will be closed.  I offered to poll the P&E Canadians since none of them have any idea who/where to ask.

So - Good Friday a bad choice for a bachelor party, or about the same as any other time?

Re: Anyone from Montreal?

  • Im not from montreal but I have a few friends who live there (they arent online right now though). I could ask them, but i have a feeling someone else will be able to answer it before I get ahold of them. Ill still ask anyways and PM you once I hear back.
  • Thanks, Nebb!

  • Ok so apparently bars and clubs and stuff like that are all open the entire easter weekend, because apparnetly "everyones a drunk" there. This is according to my friends roomate, who has lived in montreal her entire life. So I think youre good to go!
  • Yay!  FI will be happy somebody agrees with him!  (One of the guys planning is from Germany, and not overly familiar with holiday traditions in North America.  Most of them have been to Montreal, but not for Good Friday.)

Apparently Montreal is where FI and his high school buddies used to go when they were 18 but not yet 21, because they could drink.

  • I used to do the same (not montreal, but a city in quebec across from Ottawa ON). It was mighty convenient.

I think some things might be closed, some stores (clothes, grocery, things like that), but nothing that would affect a bachelor party. Even then it would only be closed friday, and open Saturday and probably Sunday as well.
  • I'm not from Montreal, but I've been studying here for 3 years now- Good Friday might actually be a really good time to go. Nebb's friend is right, there's no way more than a very few bars would close, and I bet most or all of the clubs will be open as well. But things will probably be less crowded than your average Friday because students and a lot of businesses give Good Friday and Easter Monday off, so people go away for the weekend.

Since they're a bachelor party, I should mention- The two big club areas are on St. Laurent street and on Crescent street (the St. Laurent area is much bigger and better, but also farther from downtown hotels). St. Catherine street downtown has about a million strip clubs (don't know your feelings on those), despite being the main shopping area downtown.

  • sclams, I personally don't like strip clubs but I don't care if FI goes to one.  I trust him.  If I didn't, we wouldn't be getting married.  I know they've talked about that, but I don't know what they've decided on.  I will pass along the feedback, though!  Awesome - thanks!
