What's the point?

I was just getting some coffee, and I noticed someone had brewed some decaf.  Why? Do people really just like the taste of mid-grade office coffee?

Re: What's the point?

  • I don' t know, it's like drinking non-alcoholic beer.

  • My parents drink decaf for the reduced (but still present) caffeine.  I also have a friend who drank it all through her pregnancy.

  • Gross.  Nick's mom is almost to the decaf point.  She'll make coffee (that looks more like tea) and then adds hot water to her mug.  Why is she even drinking it?

  • I still don't "get" decaf coffee :/

  • The other day at the grocery store I saw nonalcoholic red wine.  I didn't know that even existed.

    Agreed.
  • Possibly. My grandmother had to switch to decaf in her last years because of heart troubles. Some women are advised to skip caffeine due to fibrocystic breast disease. I couldn't drink caffeine when I was nursing. Did I still want my morning cuppa joe? Yep. I still normally drink a blend of French roast and decaf, though I am trying to wean myself off of that even.

Not so sure about the mediocre office coffee, though. I'm a coffee snob (drive 40 minutes each way to the store to get the specific kind I want, when it would be a WHOLE lot easier to pick some up at the grocery store 2 minutes from work).

That would have been IDEAL for my grandmother. She loved wine, but couldn't drink it because she was allergic to alcohol. Gave her an asthma attack every time. I know, the horrors!
  • My sister drinks it because she's pregnant and isn't supposed to have a lot of caffeine.

Other than that, my mom will usually drink decaf because she loves the taste.

That would be grape juice, my dear :)

(probably overpriced grape juice, marketed as non-alcoholic wine)

  • I mix regular and decaf after my first cup just to cut down on the caffeine. I guess it's a matter of preference. Like diet vs. regular.

I can't figure out the point of this question. Why do you care what other people drink?

    Curiosity...
  • I guess I can understand decaf coffee, because I drink caffeine-free soda.  I gave up caffeine a few years ago, but started drinking coffee in the morning in the last year.  I guess I just don't want to overload myself.

  • The only caffeine I drink is tea. It helps with my headaches, and when I get one, I can turn to a regular Coke to help with relief. Coffee of any kind tears up my stomach, therefore I don't drink any of it. Hot tea - usually herbal, or decaf, or sometimes regular. And only one cup.

So - some people avoid it for health reasons.

Ohhhhh, me too.  I'm a bad mean knottie rememberer.  Boo.
  • I like to mix my coffee too because if I have too much I am all hyper and cranky. But, it is still a habit of mine to sip on coffee all morning so it works for me.

My office coffee is awesome though (Trader Joes wooot) so all your biitches can be jealousee.

  • I also don't get the point of this post. Is this like your "Head tables are so cheesy, am I right guys?" post when you've actually never seen one IRL and aren't using one at your wedding? What's with the random, judgy thread topics about things that have nothing to do with you?

  • I don't think a post about decaf coffee is "judgy."  I was sincerely curious.
  • polichik...i saw in your bio you were link from the legend of zelda for halloween.  i was him too in 2008.

  • Coming from you, it sounds judgy given your other posts. And typically when I ask "what's the point?" about something and call it mid-grade, I'm judging it a leetle bit.

  • My grandmother loved black coffee, but when she got older she had to drink decaf because regular coffee upset her stomach too much. She really did just love the taste of coffee.

Some people can't have caffeine. I can't, but I always loved coffee so I just got used to the taste of decaf. What is so weird about people drinking decaf at work? I don't get the point of this post.

I don't understand how you can be as smart as you attempt to portray yourself, yet have no idea how it's possible that someone would enjoy something you don't.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010
