When to send out invites

My wedding is this December, when should I send out my std's and invites? I want to make sure that they go out early enough since our wedding is in December, but not too early. Anyy suggestions?

Re: When to send out invites

  • I wouldn't send them any earlier than 10 weeks out.

  • 6-8 weeks before the wedding for invites, and I recommend against sending STDs unless your wedding is a destination wedding, has loads of out of town guests, or is on a holiday weekend.

  • My wedding is July 24th and I am sending my invites out the last week of May.  My venue has to have a head count by July 2nd.  Also, most of my guests are OOT.

  • Thanks! That was basically what i was thinking.

Why no stds? Because people will throw them away, or they are an unessesary extra cost? i was against them at first, but i found the exact ones that i liked on sale. i haven't bought them yet

I sent out STDs.  Over 90% of my guests are OOT and I wanted to make sure to give them enough time to make travel arrangements.

  • I just don't think STDs are really necessary unless you have lots of out of towners or it's a holiday weekend, so I think they can be a waste of money. Also, you'd be amazed by how many people come back here 3 months before the wedding saying "I sent a save the date to this girl and now I don't like her anymore, do I have to invite her?"  I actually sent save the dates and didn't have any issues, but just remember that if you send a STD you have to send an invite, and sometimes things change. People lose jobs, stop being friends, last minute venue changes, etc.

I mean they're certainly not evil or anything, I just like to give a warning because of how many people I know that change their mind afterwards :)

  • No earlier than 10 weeks. You could do save the dates if you feel you need to give extra notice, such as if your guests are mostly from out of town or it's a holiday weekend.

  • STDs normally go out around the 6 month mark, so anytime between now and June will actually be fine. I actually found them helpful because I was able to solidify my guest list and get most of the addresses I need so I don't need to scramble right before I send out invitations.

  • I think that sending out STDs is reasonable for a December wedding.  Lots of people travel around that time, so it might be helpful for them to be aware of your wedding date.  However, I agree that you have to invite everyone that receives a STD, so make sure you want to invite them.  With regards to timing, I agree with PP.
