Liatris2010 - foot print

thank you for the footprint link.

I do not consider myself "green" although I do try. Re-usable bags, walk or bike as much as possible, conserve water, etc.

I'm happy to say my carbon footprint and housing are below average.  Housing by a lot actually.  Carbon by a good amount.  Having a pick-up truck hurts, but we only drive it 6500 miles a year, so that helps.

Food and product consumption I completely fail.     I guess I have work to do in those categories.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • Interesting. We rent, so there's no much we can do about all the household things, and we definitely don't eat as many locally grown things as I'd like. We cloth diaper, recycle, and try to save water, but I got some good tips from that. I had no idea you could recycle electronics.

  • It's so easy now! DD is allergic to Pampers and Huggies so we decided to give it a go. We use mostly all in ones, so they go on and off exactly like disposables and even have velcro. It's pretty fool proof, and we've never had a poo blowout, only had leaks once or twice, and her skin issues resolved almost immediately.

Also, they're adorable. This is her around 6 months or so.

  • Holy wow, that was a super fun link!! I learned a lot too because I had to research to answer some questions. For example, I had no idea our local electric company gets over 50 percent of its power through hydroelectric sources. Awesome! My final result was 3.75. I think livibg in an area with easy access to locally grown food really boosted my score too. Too bad there was no box for raising your own chickens! Lol.

[QUOTE]I want chickens so badly! I would count them as composting (chickens eat veggie scraps) and gardening (you're growgin eggs!).

Actually, we've been considering actual composting for a while now, because composted chicken manure is pretty much primo for gardens.  It sells for major bucks at all the greenhouses.  We just lack space something aweful.

We also do have a garden, but it has to be in the front yard so the chickens don't raid it.  Those little monsters eat EVERYTHING.  It's like goats, but fluffier and sillier.
