Pocket Invitations....Where to Include "and Guest"

We are doing pocket style invitations and since there will be no inner envelope for the "Mrs. Smith and Guest" would I just write that on the mailing envelope?

I would say 90% of the invites are married or in a serious relationship that I could put both of their names on the mailing envelope....I'm just not sure about the "and guest" part of it for the rest.

Thanks :)

Re: Pocket Invitations....Where to Include "and Guest"

  • We didn't have inner envelopes either and wrote & Guest on the envelope.  Technically etiquette wise you are supposed to include an insert card that says "you are welcome to bring a guest of your choice."

  • We had pocket invitations too. I found some paper at Office Max that was close to our invitation texture and color, and then made belly bands that said "John & guest" to go around the RSVP card and envelope.
  • We put "and Guest" on the outer (the first time I was married). There is no "official" etiquette for this because "traditional etiquette" calls for an inner envelope, which is ridiculous with a pocketfold. Personally I think a note is overkill and a little weird.

<div>That's how I feel too, and that's why we didn't do them.  Also, know who you are sending it to.  The only people on our list who ended up with just & guest written were mine and H's friends, who don't have any clue about wedding etiquette, and we knew they wouldn't care.  </div>

Thanks for the feedback....I will go with the "and Guest" on mailing envelope :)

  • i'm so glad you asked this question because i was JUST thinking about this today as i was mouting the mats for my invites!!!

only a few people on our list that will have "and guest", so I suppose it won't be too bad.

I had a belly band around my petalfolds, and that belly band served as the inner envelope.

i'm doing a belly band with a bow.  maybe i could have a little hang tag for those w/guest that says 'mr. john smith and guest'.  hmmm....that's a thought.

i don't think i'd need to do this for couples where it's addressed to both of them.

what do you think of that idea?

<div>It's up to you and how strongly you feel about having an inner envelope.  In general, yo'll be able to convey who's invited without one, but I just happened to love my belly bands and was able to increase their functionality by having that extra bit of paper have some writing on it.</div>
  • We put ours on the outer envelope.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    Cute invitations.

Give me a minute.  I need to see if I ever took pictures of my invitations.

Ok, not the best pictures (taken in a dark room with the computer camera).  (I ended up lining both sides of the envelop so the belly band didn't show through, gosh I was anal.)  This was a sample invitation (the writing on the belly band was much nicer than my scribble).

Not anal....just a perfectionist, lol.  I am the same way though about it showing through so I'm glad you mentioned that since mine are teal and the envelopes are a creamy shade.

I really like those...thanks for the feedback and pics, it's a big help
