Show me your outdoor ceremony decorations! Please?

This is the space:

That's an ivy-covered arbor back there in the shade.  We'll have white chairs set up in front of it.  I think we'll have 6 rows or so.  I've gone back and forth with a lot of ideas and I really only have about $100 budgeted for this.  Petals in the aisle...but then how do they not blow away?  Ribbon pomanders...will people think we're being cheap for not using flowers?

Should I just say forget anything and go with the "nature is beautiful" mentality?

  • I don't have a picture or anything, but we are using some flowers for the chairs outside.  But we are not having them on every chair...just on 6 of the rows.  I wanted flower petals, but the venue doesn't allow them.

  • it's really pretty as it is, petals on the aisle would be the most you'd need in my opinion. Plus they don't really blow away unless it's crazy windy.

  • I would keep it simple, because it is such a beautiful area.  But some color with the white chairs would really make it pop.  I'm having the florist make small bouquets of daisies wrapped in ribbon to hang from the side of chair.  I can't find any pics of it right now, unfortunately, but they make a loop out of the ribbon to hang the flowers with.  I like that better than the pomander, because it's less symmetrical so looks more natural in an outdoors setting.

  • This is what I think you should do. This would be your view looking at the crowd. ;)

    YWIA.

Just kidding. Have you considered the tissue paper pomanders? Someone did them...maybe Whit? I'd consider talking to Navy and see if she has any ideas.
  • That is tempting Jess, you have no idea :)

  • I found these lanterns for sale by a local knottie and used them with a few fresh flowers (from an arrangement from DH a few days before!) tucked in the top and silk/real leaves where you'd use petals. None of them blew away, and they helped create the "aisle."

  • Bec, those things are so pretty.

TR, I'm sorry I wasn't more helpful. I am killing time waiting for the dryer to buzz.
  • You can get those lanterns Bec posted from snedcowholesale.com . We used them as our centerpieces and they're really affordable.
  • TR, btw, if you use my ideas used in that picture I demand that you give me credit.

    Just sayin'

    ;)
  • Poli made the pomanders out of coffee filters. They're cute and would be cheap.

    I also like the lanterns.
  • We're making these:

It costs about $80 for the styrofoam balls, coffee filters, dye, straight pins, hot glue guns/glue, and ribbon. That's enough to make 12!

Everyone who's seen them loves them. FI said that they're the most professional-looking thing we've made so far.
  • Thanks Bec and Opal, I'll check those lanterns out :)  Of course, then I also need to find shephards crooks....

haha Jess, I really enjoyed your rendering! :)  And of course you'll get credit!  Actually, I will send you one million dollars if I use that idea, sound good?

  • We found sheperad hooks at the Dollar Tree (I think we picked them up about a month ago), they are thin, but I think they should hold any decorations noted above.

You better pay me. I chose only the elements that say, "We're classy and in love"

I feel that going a different way would just say, "We only like each other."
  • I say go natural.  We originally had an outdoor ceremony planned and it wasn't until a few weeks prior that I realized I had no decorations except flower petals.  In fact, when it snowed that day and we had to move it indoors I didn't have any decorations for that either.  And the flower girl didn't throw a single petal (that we paid a bunch for because they had to be real if used outside).  I think having the lanterns would be cute but if it's too much work or trouble than leaving it natural would be beautiful.
