Wishing Well Gift

I just got a bridal shower invite and it says to bring a wishing well gift for the couple to use on their honeymoon. How much would you ladies spend on something like this? Any cute gift ideas? I just keep going back to sun block....

I would really consult the hosts of the shower.
In my area - wishing well and money tree have the same meaning.

The only time I've ever been "ok" with a money tree is when a couple (friends of family) had their 25th wedding anniversary party at their campground (they own the campground). They closed it for that weekend, and only allowed people invited to the party camp there. Some people organized a money tree because they allowed everyone to camp there free of charge, essentially losing money for the weekend. So I clipped on a $20 bill to the tree and felt good about it.

[QUOTE]So this is in addition to the main gift (like off their registry) that you give? If that's so, then cheap. I don't think I like this idea.

The invitation has a note: Bride is registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond and please bring a wishing well gift for the couple to use on their honeymoon.

I'm assuming I'll be bringing two gifts, one from the registry and then something small. I have a feeling they will be receiving lots of tubes of sun block.

I vote tacky bride and groom sunglasses, which will be even more hilarious if the wishing well is in fact only for cash. :)

Should I write: THIS IS TACKY on the invite and mail it back to the MOH?

Wishing wells aren't tacky at showers; at least they're REALLY common around here. I've never been to a shower without one.

Usually it's something small - $15 or less - and usually household stuff unless it's themed otherwise. My sis got stuff like rubber spatulas, oven mitts, stuff like that. For my shower, she made it tool-themed, so we got electrical and duct tape, sandpaper, a hammer, some nails and screws, all sorts of stuff like that. I did have one aunt go overboard and give us a leatherman, but she's like that.

My cousin's wishing well was pet related - and they were donating everything to a shelter. So we got a bunch of dog & cat toys & some food to chuck in.

For Antigua, I'd do sunblock or insect repellant if you want to play it straight. Or even a beach towel you find on sale. If you want to make it a little more fun, go to the dollar store and pick up a plastic bucket & shovel, basically kids' beach toys! Or a set of goofy plastic sunglasses, the crazier the better. Since it's the "add on" gift, you can have some fun with it like that.

I've seen these at showers, but they are usually for "kitchen stuff" like measuring spoons, recipe cards, spices, etc. Just the little things that you don't really think about.

That's funny, but I don't think I've ever noticed or would have noticed that.

Now I wonder what my shower invitations said...

This is what they are in my area (Long Island). Like, $5-$10 kitchen stuff.

That's weird about small things for their honeymoon...there aren't that many choices for that!

Typically the shower is for the bride so I don't see why you'd mention the groom on the invitation.

A small memory card for the camera, if you can find out what kind of camera they have. Or a waterproof case for it. (http://www.ecost.com has super cheap memory cards)
    Travel bag for wet clothing.
    flip flops
    Bride & Groom water bottles?
    Travel guide
    beach bag
    beach ball? the inflatable kind
aloe gel, for when they forget the sunscreen

I went to a registry party on Sunday and there were some girls who were there with their mothers rather than their FIs. Which I thought was WEIRD. And this one girl who brought her FI, her mom, and about 3 other people, who kept walking through the store saying, "This is so cuuuuute! You need to put this on your registry!"

Here in Aus, a 'wishing well' is only a gift of money (aka wishing wells where you throw in money and make a wish)... but I gather that this is a cultural thing that isn't uniform in the states as it is here.
