How long do you wait before following up with a couple to see if a gift arrived?

I had a friend get married January 21st.  I was unable to attend the wedding and ordered her wedding gift (two travel sized suitcases) from Target in mid-December and had them shipped directly to her house, but I got an e-mail from Target that they would be shipped separately.  I haven't gotten a thank you note or any word from the bride that the packages arrived and I'm worried they have been lost.  How long should I wait before checking with her to see if they arrived?  I don't want to come off b!tchy and like "where is my thank you note?!" because I'm not concerned about a note, but I will have a chat with Target if she in fact did not get her present.

[QUOTE]Did you have a tracking confirmation with your packages? I would check with Target first to see the status of the order. If Target says they have been delivered, then I would give her a call at the end of the month.

This. Plus, you say she only got married on January 21st. If she received your gift in December, it was probably around Christmas which is always hectic, then she was probably super stressed leading up to the wedding, then on HM, so I would give her a couple more weeks.
  • I would give her a little more time.  Christmas-time can be hectic, and I'm sure that she was busy in January with last minute wedding details.  It hasn't even been a month since her wedding yet, and she might still be working through her thank you card list.  I think I would give her at least until mid-March or early April until you inquire.
  • I would wait at least a month after her wedding date
  • Eh I'd probably wait until early April.  That gives her 2 months from the time she returns from her honeymoon.  Even if you sent it around Christmas, she might have decided to wait and open everything she received within a certain time period before her wedding AFTER her wedding.  Some couples do this, paricularly if they live in place A and the present is shipped to a location like a parents' house at place B where the wedding will take place (this is probably what we're going to end up doing bc neither FI nor I live in my hometown anymore, yet that's where the wedding will take place).

  • I might be in the minority, but everything I ever read for wedding etiquette said, "Get those cards out ASAP." I think I did all my thank-yous within the week after I got back form my honeymoon - so it's not unreasonable to assume it would have come already. I might give her a couple more days (to make it an even month), but a friendly note asking for the sake of making sure it got there wouldn't be out of line if you're concerned.
  • The couple might be making thank you cards with a wedding picture so I would wait a while.

That's exactly why you shouldn't do that. I always suggest doing something furing your engagement pic session to use if you want something with your faces on it.

  • I'm still 'waiting' for a thank you note from a wedding we attended last May. I would give them a little more time ;)

  • I would check with Target regarding the delivery now, but give her more time on the thank you note.  This way if Target shows it wasn't shipped or something, you can start following up with them now.
